BODY PUMP

Could someone explain what is Body Pump.
Where do I get a body bar?
Are there Body Pump tapes? How good is this workout?
Thanks in advance

This thread is floating around but I can't find it right now.
"Body Pump" is a trade marked name for a work out with weights to music. The instructors have to learn specific routines to specific music in order to call it "Body Pump", kind of like "Jazzercise" is to "hi/lo" and "Tae Bo" is to "Kick Boxing"
You generally work the entire body using mostly a barbell or body bar. How much weight you use will affect how much you get out of the workout. It's generally higher repetitions at a little faster speed. Cathe's PS series is the same idea.

I have the actual "BodyPump" tape and I really enjoy it. The music is great, and although I'm not sore the next day, my muscles feel worked while I'm doing the workout. In my opinion you dont need a specific "body bar" to do this tape. I have a 10 lb barbell, and I use 2 5 lb weight plates for a total of 20 lbs and that seems sufficient for the entire workout for now. Of course I'll up the weight as I get stronger. Basically this tape involves faster tempo basic exercises like barbell curls, overhead presses, squats etc to great music, kinda like a fun aerobics class but you're doing strength. I'm going to order CIA 2102 Powerbar Training soon which from what I've read is a similar type of workout.

Hi Stacy,

I too have the Body Pump video and is awesome, I absolutely love it, I use a #26 barbell and #20 body bar when I feel that I want to go a little light, the CIA 2102 Powerbar Training is an excellent workout, I'd say the CIA is more intense than the Body Pump in MHO, you really work very hard with this tape(2102) I really recommend it.

Good luck !

Thanks for the info, it's nice hearing where someone is coming from instead of just saying it's a good tape. I had thought about ordering Powerbar Training until I read on collage it was a beginner level, but your response plus plenty of others has made me reconsidered. Now I'm anxiously awaiting CIA 2102 and 2101 Extreme Interval and Pump Party not mention all of Cathe's new ones. I think this should keep me going for a long time. Thanks again for the input.

Hi Stacy,

I'm surprised that collage would categorize 2102 as a beginner level, I truly don't think so, I haven't check on collage to see if that is indeed their opinion but given the fact that I have worked out with this particular tape makes me strongly disagree, but it's also true that you can make a workout light or challenging depending on the amount of weights that you use, but not CIA 2102, you work each body part to a point of fatigue, at least it is for me, by the time I'm working on my bicep which is almost nearly the end of the upper body work I'm begging for mercy, for the abdominals you get to use the body bar to maximize your work, it's a great workout, I love it !
