Body is going CRAZY-Help

I am 34 1/2 and loved the thread on turning 30. It was a great thing but now this whole year I have been fighting something - but I don't know what. HORMONES, I think.

I have put on weight I can't lose. I go thru weeks where I can't get out of bed to exercise eventhough I know I will feel great if I just do it. Bloated all the time and I think holding alot of water. I eat good during the day then blow it at night with sugar.

I have never been able to tolerate birth control (migraines) but my Dr. put me on Nuveau Ring with a constant flow of hormones. I have been on it for 3 months and did feel better but now I starting to feel bad again and my body is trying to "start" earlier than it should. I should take the ring out in 5 days and I am already spotting. Weird.

Has anyone experienced something like this?

Well, your body is probably still adjusting to the ring. Hopefully after a few more months you'll be OK.

Have you had a thyroid check? In fact, you might want to have complete blood work done, just to make sure everything is OK. It also might help to see a nutritionist, but you have to stick to your diet! :)

I've been on the Nuvaring for about 2 years. I probably had a few times of spotting before my period but otherwise I love it. I am 46 and what I notice the most as I age is clean eating seems to be so important for results. I can exercise for hours but if my eating is off...then goodbye to results. I do believe exercise is important though so I never quit...:)...Carole

slenamond,

I would talk to your doctor about feeling that tired, there could be more to it then hormones, granted they do play a big role, but being checked for other things just to rule them out would be good too, especially if the Nuveau Ring isn't helping with the tiredness. Especially if your that tired after eating some sugar before bedtime the night before, it could lead to being slightly diabetic. Not to alarm you, but I know how horrible it is to be that tired all the time. Mine was mostly due to refusing to take pain meds and fighting with pain all the time. It actually did turn my system diabetic, until I finally accepted my pain meds as part of my life, it was so stressed out that it was doing all sorts of wacko things. So just because it points in one direction doesn’t mean, that is the cause, but a another one that is causing everything and much simpler problem to fix, and it fixes all of them at once.

The slight spotting before the period, I've always considered a warning, that next week I'll have my crimson tide.

I agree with Laura that it would be a good idea to keep going with the Nuvaring for a few more months to see how your body adjusts to it. Then evaluate your energy levels and bleeding/spotting. If you are still spotting throughout the 3 weeks of Nuvaring use then you may need extra estrogen because it means that the level of estrogen in the Nuvaring is not enough to stop your uterus lining from being sloughed off. I have used the Nuvaring for about 16 months now. I had a few months of weird energy levels while I got used to it, then I loved it and felt so much better. Recently though, I have been bleeding and spotting constantly, so my PCP is talking about adding extra estrogen in for me.

I have also been through a recent period of chronic fatigue. Since I already suffer from depression, anti-depressants are helping me get my energy levels back.

This is not to say that you need anti-depressant medication, but to say that the causes of tiredness can be multiple. Our energy levels may have a purely biological reason, such as low thyroid (def get it checked out), but it can also be because you are feeling anxious, depressed, over-stressed or generally feeling "blah" about your life.

Make sure you are working out moderately: you don't have to do the Viper and Gauntlet and Imax 3. Start off with something fun, something low key, with no pressure attached. Then, give yourself well-deserved rest and relaxation, aswell as adequate sleep at night and good nutrition. Ditch the junk, throw it put of the house, don't buy any more. If you need sweetness, eat fruit. Assess your life: is everything else going OK?
