I was just wondering if anyone here was doing this program. I'm curious about it and am wondering how or if Cathe's tapes could be used. Any thoughts?

Hey Terry, I just read the book a few weeks ago, I even signed up on the website to take the challenge but I will officially start it on May 13th (I'm going on a cruise May 6th and have NO intentions of sticking to a strict diet!!) I have begun to change my eating habits and I am using myoplex lite (which I just LOVE, but it aint cheap!). You can definately incorporate Cathe's tapes into the program, thats what Ive been doing, I just cut the cardio down to 30 minutes. The CTX series works out great. Thats what Im doing this week. Most of the time Ill double up and do cardio and weights on the same day, cause sometimes I cant workout 6 days a week, it works out the same, I get 3 days of weights and at least 3 days of cardio. Let me know if you take the challenge, Id love to have someone to talk to that is going thru the same thing!! Feel free to email me a [email protected] Good luck! Judy

I am currently practicing the Body for Life philosophy of only doing 25 minutes of cardio 3 days a week and splitting upper body and lower body to every other day. I have never felt better! Perhaps it's knowing that I only need to do intense cardio for a short time that keeps me motivated. I have a ten month old, so time is of the essence for me.
My stomach is tighter and flatter, and my clothes are bagging off of me. I probably went down 1 pant size in two weeks time, although I wasn't that big to begin with. I am sorry I am so long winded, but I really believe in this. I do Cathe's leaner legs Mondays and Fridays, and her arm workout form MIS on Wednessays. The days in between I either do jump rope, Nordic Trak, cycle, or step for 30 minutes. Another key is not to eat before you workout! I hope this helps!

I dont eat before or for one hour after a workout, thats what he suggests. I workout in the early morning to get it over with. Judy

Hi Judy and Alicia!
Judy-Starting a challenge on the 13th of May sounds good to me. I don't think I'll do anything official though. I have the CTX series (I'm hooked on step and Intervals right now), and I agree, it should be just about right for cardio. Anyway, I wrote down your email, and I'll be in touch. Enjoy your cruise! Where are you going?
Alicia-I've seen before and after pictures on different websites. Some of the results are truly awe-inspiring! I've dropped some pounds and inches, but I always have trouble with portion control. I'm hoping this will help. I don't eat before my workouts, either....just coffee :-jumpy

I am!!! I am!! I have been doing Body For Life for a week and a half now. I love it! I did just the eating part and lost 15lbs and just started the exercising part last week. I have lost 20lbs so far since the first week of March. I just ordered Cathe's DVD's....yes, all of them! So I am not sure how I am going to incorporate it all yet. But I get bored easily, so I will need to make changes. But so far, no complaints. I have another forum that I go to quite often, though alot of people there are doing the Adkins plan and Body For Life exercising, but you can still feel it out. There are several in there that do the Body For Life (BFL) eating.

After you get on this page, the body for lifers is 5 from the top.

I got this book years ago and did think it was a good book. But I just wasn't ready to diet. You have to WANT to do it in order to follow any plan. You get 1 "free" eating day, but I like daily treats. But it does give good advice and I'm sure you'll lose weight following it.

As for the cardio workouts, I would just do what you like to do. I don't know that cutting down on your cardio would help! But make sure you get in enough strength training, as much as the book suggests. Maybe compare the reps/sets/exercises he suggests in the book to the ones in Cathe's videos and adjust accordingly.

Terry, I just got an email from you and will be writing you back, but I just be-bopped over here first. When I signed up for the challenge, they sent me paperwork/info with a "start no later than May 13th" so thats why I picked that day. I just did "all step" this am and just love it! My cruise is on the Carnival cruise line, the ship is "Fascination", it is for 5 days and goes from Miami to Key West, to Cozumel/Playa Del Carmen Mexico!! I am sooooo psyched, I cant wait!! Judy

Kelly, is your last name "sixx", I ask because it is a very unusual last name and I used to work with somebody by that last name! Judy

Judy,
No, my last name isn't sixx. Actually, I always had a crush on Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue. That is where I got my name. You think for being almost 30, I would grow out of that kinda thing! I am so immature sometimes! Hey, it wasn't Nikki you worked with was it???

For the Body For Life cardio, I do tapes still. It drives me crazy to do cardio on a machine, unless I have to. I haven't seen any bad results so far...just the usual plateaus here and there. I hate those. But the eating part, is right on as far as I am concerned and the way he teaches you to break your muscles down for mass gains are great. I have finally learned how to lift weights. I am not scared to build muscle and you will hear many women say that they don't want to be big and muscular....well, its so hard for a woman to do anyway. I don't have that kind of dedication to look like Cory Everson. But I would like to be fit like Monica Brant.

Arrgh! All Step! I just can't seem to master that one, what with my being totally uncoordinated and all. My faves are Step & Intervals and Power Circuit. Today I'm going to do Chest, Shoulders & Triceps and maybe Back, Biceps and Abs. We'll see how ambitious I'm feeling!
Your cruise sounds so great!

Thanks for the link Kelly. Just what I need- another forum!:)
The more I hear about BFL, the more I think it's worth a try. People seem to have a lot of success with it. I'm not sure about all the supplements, though. I guess I'll have to do some more reading!
Terry

Terry,
The only supplements used are Protein shakes. You almost need these anyway unless you don't work. Trying to eat 6 times a day with the amount of protein your body needs is hard to plan. Pretty much any good whey protein will do. You don't necessarily have to use the one that they recommend in the book (which is Myoplex) by the way. Some people take flaxseed oil, CLA and creatine. I put the flaxseed oil in my protein shakes from time to time. But really you don't need any supplements except for the protein shakes.

Nikki Sixx!

Yes, it was Nikki!!! I used to be a backup singer in the band until that bad-a#$ Tommy Lee put the moves on me and I quit!! OK, maybe not, actually it was just a nurse I used to work with, but that just seems so boring! As for being immature, Im 38 and have NSYNC and Backstreet Boys CD's blasting in my car all the time, I just LOVE that Justin Timberlake, now how queer is that???? Judy

All Step

Terry, Taht all step is a tricky one, and I am VERY choeographically challenged!! But once you get it down, it is sooo much fun!! So hang in there!! Im doing Power Circuit today. Judy
