body fat

Hi, I was wondering why I stay at the same weight but my body fat goes up. No change in inches anywhere. I also am eating the exact same way. Since last summer I went from 16% to 21%, everything else stayed the same. Any ideas how I can get back to at least less than 20%. Thanks

If your measurements are accurate, then you are losing lean mass and replacing it with fat mass...worst possible scenario and you need to make changes!

Have you been exercising consistantly? What is eating like? Are you using the same method of measurement?

I exercise 6 days a week for as long as I can remember. All different rotations. I eat lots of chocolate chips and don't eat many veggies or fruits for that matter. I love carbs and protiens-meat though. I have always eaten and exercised the same way, thats why I was wondering what is going on. I just use a scale with bodyfat measurement on it-the same one as I always used. Thanks for replying, but worsed possible senerio scared me a tad.

KayKay...

I'm sure she didn't mean to scare you, she is just letting you know that you don't want your bodyfat to increase when weight stays the same because as she said you are replacing muscle with fat.

I know you say that you have been eating the same, I think this is a clear indication that you should probably clean things up a bit. Stick with complex carbs rather than the simple and continue with the lean protein.

Also....just change things up a bit. If you've been lifting light...go a little heavier for a while. Just some simple subtle changes should turn things around a bit for you.

I've heard that those bodyfat scales aren't terribly consistent. The readings can very a lot depending on how much water you've had, what you ate the day before, what time of day it is or even where you are in your monthly cycle. I wouldn't trust it.

You still might want to eat more veggies though.

I agree with Kristy, those body fat scales change around alot. What Sarah said really only applies if your body fat measurement is correct..like if you were having your bf measured through that process where they dunk you. Don't worry..and you'd notice in the mirror/in your clothes if there was a significant difference.

Thank you all. I will again try to eat better. I keep changing things up constantly and never see a difference no matter how much I change things up or how heavy I go. I stay the same. The scale for all summer said the same thing 16% now it always says 20 or 21% body fat. It seems consistant for long periods of time. I won't put to much stock in that and try to eat better and maybe do more aerobics? Thanks again. Karen

Make sure you do your measurements under the exact same circumstances every time...otherwise the readings are useless.

I would put the focus on diet. You are probably consuming more calories than you think with the chocolate chips. Keep the simple sugars to fruits and leave the junk for special occassions.

Sarah, great pictures. Wow is all I can say. You must not eat many chocolate chips. good job. Karen
