Body fat ratio measured? Hydroxycut?

:D Where can I get my body fat ratio measured at? Are there instruments I can buy to measure my own body fat, and if so where can I find these? Also, have any of you ever tried Hydroxycut fat burner, and is so what did you think of it? Thanks!;-)

You can contact local personal trainers and inquire whether they have the means to measure your body fat ratio; there are mechanical tests of varying sophistication (everything from calipers to total-body submersion which I believe is called bioelectrical impedence or some gobbledy-gook like that) and varying cost (from the modest to the astronomical). You can also purchase body-fat calipers and other gizmos from Perform Better (www.perform-better.com - I think) or Power Systems (www.power-systems.com - I think) catalog companies. I'm sure there are other companies that market devices for body fat measurement; just do a Google search with "body+fat+measurement" as your keyword search and you'll be sifting thru the options. I think a skilled professional trainer would be your best bet, however.

Re Hydroxycut, I'll leave that one to others. IMHO, all over-the- counter supplements that tout themselves as "fat burners", regardless of whether or not they have ephedra, are snake-oil health-compromisers and money-pits.

:D Thanks for the great info Aquajock! I will check these sites out! By the way, how did you come up with the name Aquajock? Do you train or teach or do both in the water? Just curious. Thanks again!:D

Hey, Intensity Lisa! Actually, Aquajock IS my real name; I just use "Annette Simmons-Brown" 9-5 Monday - Friday for professional reasons only . . .}(

I both train AND teach in the water. I'm in the pool with my participants actually doing the workout as I'm leading it; although there's some controversy about that practice especially among aqua instructors (there are those who feel the participants need to see what you are doing and you should teach from the deck), IMHO I cannot know whether a movement is effective aquatically unless I'm doing it myself.

Also, I train alone in the pool using extended flutter kick drills, treading water drills, suspended long-lever leg drills, ab work, upper body work, and aqua jogging routines as well. Aqua is a perfect cross-training (I almost typed "crAss-training - what a Freudian, huh?) mode for me because it is such a joint-saver; because the impact forces are so much less and the resistive forces AROUND the body are so much greater, I can go at an ultra-high intensity level and not risk injury nearly so much. Plus it prevents body boredom as well as brain boredom (as if we could separate the two).

TO: Aquajock!

:)Maybe you can give me some tips on some aqua training since we just bought a home that has a pool. The only problem is we won't be able to use the pool until spring, May (arghh). I will keep you in mind when it comes time, o.k.?

RE: TO: I-Lisa!

I'd be happy to give you some pointers on some simple but exceedingly effective pool drills, both in the shallow and deep end, when the time comes.

Lemme know . . .

TO: Aquajock!

;) Our pool is an above ground pool 30 ft. size, 4 ft. deep. I hope there are still some great exercises I can do! I will keep in touch! Thanks!:D
