BIG caffeine cutback

So I am what one would call a caffeine junky. And as my hours at work and commute have gotten longer in the past month or so, so has the caffeine intake. A typical day would be coffee w/ breakfast, coffee on the way to work, Diet Coke when I get to work, cup off coffee, Diet Coke with morning snack, cup of coffee. Diet Coke with lunch, cup of coffee, Diet Coke with afternoon snack, Diet Coke on ride home. Ok, waaaaaay to much hoochy juice, duh! I had been wanting to cut back, but being a wee bit addicted, wasn't sure how. And was dreading the withdrawl headache. Nevermind that my head has been hurting, I can't sleep, I'm crabby, my stomach has been feeling weird and I'm tired as all get-out.

So last Saturday I drank my coffee with breakfast and my coffee on the way to work, and had a Diet Coke at work. And then an upset tummy. So i got home and told DH I was going to lie down. I took a nap and woke up still not feeling well, and DH and DS had gone off to the store. I figured I needed a glass of water since I hadn't eaten since breakfast or had anything else to drink. So I went to the kitchen (small house, not that far) and by the time I got to the sink my heart was pounding and I was in a cold sweat. I got my cup and was taking it back to the bed room and my legs were going all wobbly and the room went black, I wa sstill standing, but I felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest. I barely made it back to the bed to lie down, and it took a good 3 or 4 mins to feel better, although I still felt crappy. I prob should have been in the hospital. I went back to sleep and woke up and decided to take a bath. Still felt crappy, stomach out of whack, but NOT like the belly monkey flu. I took my bath and on the way out of the bathroom, decided it was time to be sick. So i threw up, and not to be gross, but it was all coffee and Coke. I IMMEDIATELY felt so much better. I could've ran a mile.

I swear I had some kind of funky caffeine poisoning. I was a little sleepy still the rest of the day and Sunday, and my stomach was a little weird from throwing up, but I felt so much better than I have in the last month. I severely cut down on the caffeine - 1 drink a day. And I have had no headaches, I sleep like a rock, I'm not cranky, I'm not tired, I have more energy. All the things I was trying to combat drinking all that crap came back to bite me in the butt big time.

I'm not stupid, I knew it wasn't good for me, nor were all the chemical in the Diet Coke, but I didn't think it would be THAT bad for me. But I swear that is what made me sick, it just didn't feel like the belly flu at all. I had been wanting to cut it back, I guess that was the kick in the pants I needed, but I felt like I was going to die. Why do I have to be so stubborn sometimes????

Whoa Nelly! Sounds like your body had enough and you were not listening, so it had to show you in a big way! Sorry you were feeling sick, but glad the worst is over now. Too much coffee makes my heart beat weird sometimes and I hate that. I limit my intake to two cups a day, and I never drink diet coke.

Yikes, that sounds scary!

Good for you for listening to your body, sorry it took something like that, though!

I was sleepy at work yesterday, so I drank a Diet Pepsi and I felt like you-know-what for the rest of the day. All the crap in those drinks makes my body revolt.

Good luck getting yourself off of the stuff!

YIKES! How scarey!

I will get a migraine if I don't get a cup of coffee in the morning but after that I am fine. I DO usually drink several cups of caff coffee through out the course of the day but switch to decaf after dinner. I also don't drink soda or any other caffeinated beverages as a rule. I will never give up my caffeine altogether but know that as long as I get just one cup I am good and I can live with that. :)
