Beverly -- running question

Hi Beverly,

I know you're a runner so I'm hoping you can give me a little guidance. I tried a similar post to this last week, but it got scooted down the list too quick. :)

I'm going to Florida soon and I'll be there for 3 weeks. I can't bring all my equipment, so I'd like to do some running on the beach while I'm there to continue burning fat/calories and to continue progressing with my cardio endurance. (I'm able to do all of Imax2 and Bootcamp now and I don't want to regress at all.)

In years past I have gone down and run 3 miles a day on the beach, but I know that's not a smart way to do it.

So my question is, what would be the best way to implement running while I'm there, knowing that I'm not a runner year round. Should I walk 5 minutes, run 2 minutes, walk 5, run 3?

Can you help?

Thanks!

Hi Marla,

If you have not been running at all, you definetely want to do a walk/run. If you have never had any trouble with running (knees, hips etc) run as much of it as you can. Doing some sprints in between a walk and/or jog will help keep up your fitness level. Kind of like IMAXs. Just listen to you body and don't overdo it the first couple of days till you see how your body will respond to the running.

Nice easy run/walk to start. Then try to run more than walk and by the end you should be able to do some sprints or intervals with the runs.

I hope this helps. McMain/Carole may have some input since she is a runner too..

Have fun in Florida and let me know if you have any more questions..

Beverly
