Better success with WW type program or counting calories?

I have heard a lot of people say that WW doesn't give enough calories. But, then I have seen tons of people have great success with WW.

So I come here to ask: Which gave you better, lasting results: WW or another diet program OR counting calories?

Jessica

I started out with WW points and lost the first 15+ pounds - it gives a good foundation and really helped me stay focused in the beginning.

Now I'm using the sparkpeople.com site to count calories. I figure it's a little more realistic, plus it's free. I have another 15+ pounds to go.

The way I see it, you can make just about any plan work but you have to follow it. Write then bite and consistent exercise = weight loss!

Good luck! ~jasper

For me it was ww over calorie counting. WW really helped me with portion sizes but I do agree with Jasper any plan will work.

To be honest, pick one that you can stick to.

I rejoined WW online and like tracking my points online. I'm glad WW tweaked their points via the little quiz you take, so it's more geared toward the individual. I get 4 more points a day than I used to and it's made a huge difference.

I've had great luck with WW ... made lifetime 2 years ago, and rejoined 2 weeks ago. I have about 10 lbs. I want to take off before it gets out of control. The accountability is HUGE for me in terms of success.

I always thought WW didn't give enough calories, but remember they have 2 plans! With the CORE plan, you are simply eating clean and NOT counting anything but foods that are "not" clean - those are limited. This works for me because if I'm starving due to a tough workout, I don't feel guilty for eating more ... I'm just listening to my body.

And I figured a guestimate of calories if I did the Flex Plan - I'd get about 1450 per day PLUS more for calories burned working out. So I'd probably average 1600-1700 per day. I don't think that's awfully low.

I agree, you have to find what works for you. I counted cals a few yrs ago and it worked for me but I was really motivated.
But since having my son, I needed more structure.I was trying to count cals but I wasn't adding in all the picking I was doing so 4 weeks ago I joined WW's online. I thought that if I had to spend money I would follow something and it worked. i then realized how much eating I was really doing. In 4 weeks I lost over 10 lbs.
I answered your question on the ww's check in to. Hopefully you will pick what works for you.

I started with WW over 2 years ago because I needed the structure. As I got more into using Cathe for my workouts, I found my weight loss stalling because I wasn't getting enough calories, but I still go to the meetings for the accountability. I track calories on SparkPeople.com now and really like it, but I still need the accountability.

It's all in what you can stick with, really.

RE: Better success with WW type program or counting cal...

I lost 62pds(in total) over the course of two years by counting calories and working out(cardio/weights) and then hit a plateau back in september of 2006 that lasted about 5mnths anyways, I joined WW at the end of janurary 2007 and have been losing 2lbs a week eversince ! so I guess its just whatever works!
