Best advice on toning Abs/waist

Hi all,

What's the best exercises or videos that give great results to the middle? I've been exercising with Cathe for about 5 months now and have gotten good tone in my arms, legs, and glutes. But my Abs still look soft and would like to lose a little more in the waistline. I do about 4-5 days(45-60 min) of cardio/wk and upper body 2x/wk. I rotate w/o's with what I have IMax2, Cardio & Weights, PUB/PLB, StepBlast& Step,Jump,&Pump; LoMax. I do the Abs workouts on the DVD I am using that day.

My legs responds quickly to any exercise but I need help to tighten the Abs(Mostly below the bellybutton).

Diet, diet, diet.

The best ab workouts IMO are weighted. Do you have Cathe's Core Max? It's a fabulous ab workout. Do you have a gym membership? If yes I can give you some really good exercises you can do in a health club.

Try doing balance work first, get your core strong before you try and strengthen your abs. Get a stability ball and start with that. Cathe's CoreMax is an excellent abs dvd to try.

I get the best ab results by alternating the following:

-- ab workout on Cardio and Weights

-- ab workout on Bootcamp (or Muscle Endurance)

-- ab workout on Slow and Heavy

-- ab workout on Muscle Max

-- Kick, Punch and Crunch (whole workout, including core work, is great for ab area)

-- Ball portion of Pyramid Lower Body (really gets the lower abs)

Of course, you can't see the results unless you pay attention to diet too.

Hi LauraMax,

I don't have a gym membership, pure home exercising works best for me with having young kids and fitting in exercise time.

I guess I don't eat clean but I don't do diets because I don't want to lose weight just tone up. I like the Europeans' philosophy of everything in moderation. I've heard many things about the book called "Why French Women Don't Get Fat" and their way of thinking in regards to food & lifestyle make sense. There is no food that's off limits, but it's all about portion size and moderation.

Also, I'm an ectomorph type and don't want to look rail thin.

I do an ab workout almost every day I workout. I usually workout 5 or 6 times a week - so I work my abs 4 or 5 times a week.

I agree with LauraMax! Diet is really the key and coremax 1, 2 and 3 are very good to have around too. If you can keep your diet very clean, you will be rewarded big time! I also will ocassionally do 5 sets of 100 for crunches too if in a hurry. Walking lunges, pullups and pulldowns also will work your abs so when your doing other workouts, keep this in mind also.

I have been getting nice results (and ouchie does it hurt!) with Tamilee Webb's "I Want that Body" Ab program number 2. I just looked and you can just buy the ab portion - it is called "I Want Those Abs".

clean diet, variety (alternate weighted & nonweighted exercises) & NOT overdoing it by working every single day. Forgot to add which vids I think are really good. Cathe - MM, ME, planks from S&H chest/back/abs, coremax, C&W abs, BC core premix to name a few. In the gym I love the standing chair where you bring your legs up to L position or crunch, w/ a dumbbell b/w your feet.

Live with sincerity, love with passion, and dance like you mean it.

OKay, so many agree on diet aside from ab exercises for best results. I guess my pre exercise snack of Cheeze Its and post exercise snack of chocolate is out?!:9 No flames please.

Pilates exercises are great, as are any of the stuff Cathe does with a stability ball. I don't use weights except for med balls, and nothing over 8 lbs. I'm not one who believes you have to use weight to get a good ab workout.
