Beginner runner needs advice...

I recently began running this past weekend. I have searched for books on the proper way to do this via the net but have been unsuccessful with finding anything that discusses running in simple terms. My ? is, as a beginner, how often and how much? When do you know that you are over doing it with running? I have started with a run walk combination, did this for 2 days, 1.5 miles in 12 minutes the 1st day, and because I was so sore from the 1st day, 1.5 miles in 15 minutes the 2nd day. Please...I need help. TIA.
 
You will be sore in different places the first few times. The two sites Carol suggested are great!

Yes, you are doing the right thing by starting out with run/walk. But give it some time and don't push yourself too hard. Runners World provides a great beginning runners program and I have recommended it to several people who have successfully used it! I think you are off to a great start but go check out those beginner programs.
