Becoming a Personal Trainer

I posted this at vf as well. I was wondering if somebody could tell me exactly what entails in becoming a personal trainer.
Is it just a written test you take or is there another type of testing.

And would you say AFAA is the best one?

Thanks so much

Hi Teresa!

If you go to our links page, we have AFAA and ACE listed under "organizations". They will have all of the details about the personal training certification posted on their site(if not they will atleast have an 800 number to call). As far as AFAA and ACE go, they are both highly credible organizations. You can't go wrong with either one of them. Good Luck!

Maybe others who have taken one of these certification programs can chime in here with some more details.

Thanks Cathe

Hi Cathe,

Thanks for answering my question. I have already checked the both of them out.

I just got done doing 10-10-10 and I am about dying!! ha ha What a great workout!!
My friend and I both ordered the dvd's but since we couldn't wait for them, we split the cost of the vhs ones and then I had to go out of town for two weeks. I went to a friends aerobics classes while I was there but all along, I kept thinking how I couldn't wait to get back home to try my new tapes out!!

Thanks again for telling me about the links to Ace and AFAA.

ISSA Certification, also

I just got certified as a personal trainer with International Sports Sciences Association--more weight training oriented, but aerobics, too. always founded on good science. And yes, we took a closed book 3 hour exam, attended a 2 day seminar, viewed and demonstrated exercises--I started studying the material seriously in Nov 99; tested and achieved on July 30, 2000. You can take up to two years to test if you need to, however.
