Barry's Boot Camp questions

OK....I took the plunge and bought it on sale at HSN last week. I got them this weekend and am itching to try them out.

First, does anybody have workout logs or sheets for these workouts?
Second, just curious what you all think about each of these workouts?
Third, are there any rotations floating around for these workouts???

Inquiring minds wanna know!

Gayle

Gayle,
I can only answer your second ?. I also just bought them through HSN, and I received them last Wed. I did the leg workout (and the cardio workout that is on the same DVD). I thought the workouts were tough, but for me, they were boring(I need action, tons of variety, awesome music, new moves to satisfy my ADHD tendencies). I can't remember exactly how it was, but I remember doing jumping jacks for 60 seconds or so, then another cardio exercise for 60 seconds or so, etc...
My legs were sore the next day, but again, the workout was too bland for my taste. Quite a few people really enjoy them, though. I hope you do enjoy them! I did return them last Friday because I looked at all of the workouts, and they were the same style as the one I tried. Thanks goodness HSN has a great return policy!

I do the following:
Day 1: Arms & Abs
Day 2: Legs & Butt
Day 3: Chest & Abs
Day 4: Shoulders & Back
Day 5: Rest or cardio of choice
Day 6: Total Body
Day 7: Rest

I do the non-treadmill cardio b/c I don't own a treadmill and while they only average around 20 minutes in length, I find the cardio tough, tough, tough! I feel the workouts that Barry leads (Arms & Abs and Total Body) are the toughest. When I follow this rotation and get the total body workout in to end the week, I really feel nicely sore and worked. It's funny b/c I didn't feel like I worked my back that hard due to my shoulders were on fire and that was all I was aware of during the workout, but the next day and especially after I rounded out the week with the total body workout, my back is sore (in a good way). I am loving this series but it is NOTHING like Cathe production wise, music wise, anything wise, but it is definitely nice for a change of pace. I like the "real" setting and the fact that everyone is a little of count, and some look tired and even really wiped out at various points. I like a lot of the music but some of the tunes are overused. I like the way the core/ab work is interspersed with the weight work and the cardio. There isn't enough stretching. What I love about BBC the most is I get in and out in one hour or less and it's a nice tough workout. I feel like I really accomplished something when I'm done and I don't feel guilty at all about spending only 20 minutes on the cardio b/c I find it so challenging. There is no recovery time in the cardio. It's one drill after another for the most part. I also like that I don't have to think about a rotation. I just pop in the DVD for the day and get to work. Oh, some of the instructors count too much, one doesn't blink and I'm always watching to see if I missed a blink, they are "pretty" boys, not very seasoned at leading a home workout production, but I really don't mind it at all. Some are a little chatty. Overall, though, two thumbs up from me! For some backgroud on me, I have most of Cathe's productions, can do the Imax's without modifications (on most days), find boot camp like drills/circuits to be the ultimate at home challenge for me, and I tend to gush when I find workouts/instructors that I like (I also love Amy Bento, the new CIA's and Double Cardio, Jari Love, the TLT's, Kelly Coffey-Meyer, and more). I hope I didn't put you to sleep. Oh, yea, there is another poster, and I hope she chimes in here that does not like the presented rotation and does her rotation differently. I'm unsure why, but would like to know why she does what she does. I will try to find the link from VF and post it in this thread.

Thanks, ladies, for your input. I did Butt & Legs this morning, plus the treadmill cardio portion. I previewed it last night and thought I'd be bored and under-worked. But I was surprisingly wrong! lol Now, you're both right, in that it doesn't even compare in the least to Cathe. But it was good. I really pushed it on the TM so I was dripping with sweat by the time I was done. "Pretty Boy"....lol. I was looking at the cover shots of these DVDs last night and that term was EXACTLY how I pegged those guys! LOL. I'll be hanging onto these, at least for now, to try them all out and see how it goes. I have all of Cathe's stuff, except the beginner 2 or 3, and can 'hang' with her for all the workouts, but I like the idea of having something different to throw in when I feel I need a change. THANKS!

Gayle

p.s. I'll check out that link when I get a chance this morning!

I do them in this rotation (which corrects the "small muscles before large muscles" suggested rotation:

Day 1: chest and abs
Day 2: Legs and butt
Day 3: shoulders and back
Day 4: arms and abs
Day 5: cardio/rest
Day 6: total body
Day 7: Rest

You could also do the same as above through day 3, then finish a bit differently, like this:
Day 1: chest and abs
Day 2: Legs and butt
Day 3: shoulders and back
Day 4: cardio/rest
Day 5: arms and abs
Day 6: cardio
Day 7: Rest

Then do the total body workout as a lighter week, doing it on days 1, 3, 5, with cardio in between.

That's me!

OK...so let me ask you another question. How much cardio do you do when you're doing just BBC and no other workouts? How often will you do the cardio, either floor or treadmill cardio? I'm curious. I'm a cardio junkie and have about 12 pounds I need to shed.

Gayle

p.s just previewed Chest and Abs for tomorrow's workout!

I do the non-treadmill cardio that follows the workout. I feel like it's plenty, even though I was worried about doing only 20 min. of cardio, but this cardio leaves me totally winded and I even have to hit pause a few times to catch my breath before moving on. Every now and then, instead of the total body (which has sections that get your heart rate up also) I would do Absolute Kickboxing or a circuit workout of choice. One week, when I was back to exercising after a 10 day cold/sinus infection, I did the BBC weight work followed by other cardio such as High Intensity Step Mix, CIA cardio, Cathe cardio. It's funny, I could handle longer cardio sessions and even pretty tough cardio but I couldn't handle the non-treadmill cardio that week. So, when I'm following my BBC rotation it's four days of non-treadmill cardio that follows the weight work, one day of cardio of choice, and then the total body workout which comes to around 140 minutes of pure cardio per week, not including the cardio included in the total body workout. I haven't gained weight. I've finished week 4. I'm not watching what I'm eating. And while I haven't lost weight, my clothes fit/look nice so my fear of gaining weight if I cut down on minutes of cardio per week/session have not been realized...woo hoo! Sorry so long!

Thanks, Angela, for your reply again! I appreciate it. This morning I did Back & Abs plus the non-TM cardio. I have to agree with you! Those 20 minutes are not easy, and yet I can handle all the IMax's and everything Cathe throws at me cardio-wise. This non-tm cardio was like a mini IMax with no recovery periods. lol THANKS! I'm liking these so far, it's a nice change, and I like the idea of having a bit of cardio each day with the weights. Can't wait to try the rest!

Gayle

I've been doing the 20 minute floor cardio, the weights, then the treadmill cardio to finish it off for a *powerful* 90 minute workout, 4 days a week. Then I do the full body with no additional cardio and take a REST day and repeat.
