Background exercisers

Recently I have been trying some DVDs by other instructors (some good and some not so good). The one main trend I am seeing is the not-so-great form of the background exercisers and how tired they get during the workout. Of course this is JMO and I can only speak of the workouts I have tried. I think that both of these things really bother me, but the exercisers that look like they are going to die halfway through a cardio workout are just not that inspiring. Plus the ones with bad form might cause someone to hurt themselves if they don't know better.

I just have to give kudos to Cathe's background exercisers. They are the best!! I frequently watch Jai or Cedie to figure things out and these ladies never look tired. Every single background exerciser that Cathe has knows what they are doing and have impeccable form and are in great shape. It is just high quality!!

Just had to post this observation and say that I love Cathe workouts!!

I have a workout where the instructor stops what she's doing to go check on her crew. And she corrects their form!! Huh?? Didnt they rehearse? Didnt she "prequalify" who was going to be in the workout with her to know they cant do a squat in good form?

Hey, I've seen *instructors* with bad form: like Amy Bento rounding her back during deadlifts in "A-team bootcamp--while her background exercisers use good form! Though Cedie does the same for those "off the riser" deadlifts that are either in GSL or MM, and it makes me cringe to think of the damage they could be doing to their backs).

Debbie Siebers stops to check on background exerciser form, which I wouldn't mind at all, BUT she stands there yapping about good form (again, on deadlifts) while Ashley, the exerciser, continues to go down too far and round her back, and bounce at the bottom, then Debbie says "good" and walks away! Now, what's with that?!

Cathe's background execisers are really some of the best.

Kathryn, I feel for Debbie Siebers in one of the slim series, when she correct some dudes lateral side raises like 10 times and the second she turns her back, he still can't do it. He does the "wave". You know, like at a football game. LOL! A couple of her backgrounders are terrible. I agree with your comments on deadlift girl, she also can't squat worth beans! I really think they could have worked on form BEFORE the filming!

I like Eoin Finns "yoga for happiness" as not one backgrounder has the same form. It goes to show that yoga is all about "your" limitations. Not anyone elses.

Can you imagine being a background exerciser and not having the routine down as perfect as you could possilbly do? It's like someone calls up and says "Hey, you wanna be in a video tomorrow? , Bring your sneakers."

I don't mind if an instuctor goes back and has one of the exercisers do an alternate move. Sometimes that can be helpful. But, mostly the exerciser goes right back to the original move. It's like they think they aren't "all that" doing the alternate.

Cathe's gang is awesome. I tried one of Mindy Mylrea and her 2 gals made all kinds of errors. I can not remember which one it was I would have to check my que on Netflix. I am not perfect by any means at all but I think being professional has a lot to say about a workout. You want to learn the moves accurately and sometimes if you can not follow the instructor one of the others can help you get a handle on it. Just sloppy to me if they are rolling off their balls and not on que.

Cathe's crew is the best!! I love them all!

I think if the instructor is going to check on the form of the background people, it should be more of a "Let's see a 'don't' and they point out things to avoid...rounded back, hunched shoulders, knees shooting over toes. Then show a 'do' and point out perfect alignment. Having background people using bad for is laziness. they view it before we do. If it's a mess, we shouldn't see it. Someone could really get hurt!
