Back from NY City and saw "Wicked" on Broadway!!

dmd

Cathlete
Hello All,

We just got back from a week in New York and just had to say that the Broadway musical WICKED was amazing! Has anyone else seen this? The story was interesting and the singers were like machines. So, now I need to work off the 5+ pounds I gained eating French, Ethiopian, Korean, and New York Deli food! Yumalicious....sigh.

It's good to be home...New York is a great place to visit, but, I don't think I could live there without developing a case of A.D.D.! I feel like a need a vacation from my vacation:). dmd

RE: Back from NY City and saw

What?! New York and New Yorkers distracted and neurotic and hyperactive??? Never!!! ;)

Glad you enjoyed it.

Bunbun.

RE: Back from NY City and saw

Hi Deb! WELCOME BACK! Sounds like you had a terrific time. I haven't seen Wicked but if I see it come around, I'll try to go. Thanks for the heads-up! We went to see the movie Phanton of the Opera this week and enjoyed it immensely. Nice to see you back and posting. Happy Easter!

RE: Back from NY City and saw

Hey there Bunbun,
Thanks for the wink on my take on New York..I hope I didn't offend you. I am from Fresno California...A FAR CRY from the hustle and bustle of a city like New York! I did have a great time. My daughter really wants to attend NYU or AMDA as a Theater Arts major, so I better make peace with the Big City, what do you think? dmd:)

RE: Back from NY City and saw

Really? A book? Who is the author? I would be interested in getting that for my daughter. Thanks~dmd:)

RE: Back from NY City and saw

Hey Deb!
Thanks for the welcome. The Phantom of the Opera really transfered from staget to film..we were very impressed by it as well.

It's good to be back. I am still unpacking, washing and trying to catch up on the board....lol. Steve calls the computer "the other man"...think he's trying to tell me something?:)

RE: Back from NY City and saw

Not offended at all, dmd. New York *is* hectic and if you're not used to it (and sometimes even if you are), it can be overwhelming. It can be especially bad in some of the tourist areas--42nd Street area in particular, which I avoid because it's so tiring to have to deal with the crowds. But I've lived in the city for 4 years (and previously for 6 years)and overall I have to say that I really love the pace of life here and the level of energy. For me, a lot of that has to do with NYC being a great city for walking. I love to walk, and it's great to just walk out my door and "do" something by walking and people watching.

It will be interesting to see how your daughter likes it here--keep us posted!

RE: Back from NY City and saw

Thanks, Bunbun. I did love the walking aspect of my trip. My brother-in-law lives on W. 47th street...right in the thick of it. They have 2 baby boys and both have great careers there, a nanny the whole bit. Central Park and the meuseums are their playground! They seem so stimulated and enthused about everything. I really admire that.

Of course we saw 4 musicals, several meuseums, ate and walked and ate and walked and shopped and shopped all in 5 days. Overwhelmed just about sums it up!lol.:) Next time, I'll slow my activities down a bit and take it in for what it is. dmd;-)

RE: Back from NY City and saw

Hi DMD,
I took my first trip to NY in January, alone on the bus, and oh boy, like you said.. I don't think I could live there?? I know I can't live there. I was awe stricken, just walking around looking at every thing every where like a three ring circus. But I have not heard of the musical Wicked. Maybe I can get some friends together and take a trip. One day that is. I want to get back home to my bed.

RE: Back from NY City and saw

Hi tytbody!

Wow, all by yourself on a bus to NYC? That is so brave! I don't know , no, I know I could not do that. So tell me, what did you do while you were there? I went on the subway with my daughter and thought I was a great explorer.

What do you like to do for entertainment? For fun? Where do you live now? I am from California, the Central Valley ( Fresno County)and we don't have much to do except raise families and pursue our careers.

The musicals I saw were great fun and the food was so different. I understand that tickets for Wicked and Lion King are not even available until after April! We happened to get our tickets thorough a ticket brocker....basically paid allot of $$ above the original ticket price. Two shows for a family fo 4 @ $1700 !!! I can't believe that this is what it costs to see a broadway show today!! Anyway, we knew that this would be one of the last vacations we would take with out teenage daughter before she went to college, so we did it up!!

I hope you get to see Wicked someday, it is worth the $$ and the time. dmd

:)

RE: Back from NY City and saw

This took some thinking for me to reply to you as It will cost me putting myself out on the line of ambush but I will trust God is with me and I will be okay.

I was in New York City taking an Exotic Dance Class lesson. (deep breath) and it's not belly dancing.:)

I will send you a photo in email.

It was not easy by far. I live in Massachusetts so the ride was a 4 hour job, at least the first trip there and back, second was longer. Yup, I was able to do it again.
I like lots of entertainment but don't get to go too many places as I'm single and all girlfriends are hooked up. Or hooked up and live out of state.
That was a very very big trip for you. Must have been even more fun to have your family with you. I'm going to see what tickets for that cost now. I thought Cats was only around $100. I must have been dreaming eh? Hope you took lots of pictures at Time Square, even if it's not the cleanest place. You were there, weren't you?

RE: Back from NY City and saw

Tytbody,
Yes, I went to Time Square and it was a zoo! Exotic dancing huh? Kewl!! Sounds very sexy and erotic. I think a little exotic dancing is good for some....but, thats just me.;-) I would love to see a pic. I'm back to my hum-drum everyday life now...wahing, cleaning, yelling at the kids etc.

Take care~dmd;-)

RE: Back from NY City and saw

it was an eye opening experience and that is what I wanted and needed.

it was/is just like you said. It's for everyone though. You can do it.:)

RE: Back from NY City and saw

Gregory Maguire is the author. It's kind of hefty and complicated at times. How old is your daughter? You might want to read some of the reader reviews at Amazon.com before buying.
