Baby gift help

My DH works very closely with a woman who just had a baby girl last week. She has a little boy, and she went through a lot to have this second child. We want to get her something kind of special. I'm having trouble resisting the adorable outfits on the babygap website, but are they special enough? What size do you get for a "real" outfit? 6-12 mos? The woman lives in Colorado and I don't know her at all. What do you think of this outfit? Thanks for your help.

Nancy,

I think your gift will be wonderfully received...adorable! I also think 6-12 mo size is quite appropriate. :)

Thanks Melissa. I'm kind of clueless about baby gifts. I'm not too crazy about the "babygap" logo on the pants.

You know what? I didn't even notice the logo until you just now said something. It's very subtle - I wouldn't worry about it. :)

Thanks Em! :D I really like this outfit. Somehow it seems special and practical all at the same time.

ETA: Would adding the matching t-shirt and sneakers be too much? ;)

Nance, that outfit couldn't be any cuter! I'm like you -- I never know WHAT to do for baby gifts. I often buy a nice blankie :+ . Sometimes I include a board book and a rattle of some sort. I found some wrist rattles once that were all fluffy and fuzzy. Fluff and fuzz -- these are the qualities I look for in a baby gift -- lol!

Darling!:7

Our company is based in Salt Lake City, where everyone is having babies, so I get invites to baby showers all the time.
I love your outfit...very practical and cute.

I used to buy at the more expensive stores, but then I discovered Old Navy and their baby section. You can get whole outfits, plus shoes and a little "snuggly" baby toy for under 50 dollars. I usually buy the 3-6 months size so they can wear it in a few months. The clothes are cute and not expensive, plus, babies grow so fast! I like to buy a little pair of overalls and a cute tee, along with a little pair of sneakers and a hat.:7 Whaaaa...sometimes I wish I would have had at least one little boy or girl....and my dog George is too big to dress up.:)

Have fun shopping Nancy!

How cute! I agree that 6-12 months is good because they can use it next fall/winter. If you want something the baby can wear right now, you should go for 0-3 months if the baby was just born last week. I know that I always appreciated practical gifts and I still remember who gave the kids almost every piece of clothes they have.

Nance - that outfit is absolutely adorable. Coming from a mom of a girl, I would have been thrilled to receive something like that when Sophie was a baby:) And I also didn't notice the logo on the pants until you pointed it out.

Nancy--that outfit is very cute. As the mother of many children, I can tell you that getting gifts in larger baby sizes is really nice, because most gifts are in the 0-3 month range. Then you've got a lot of cute tiny stuff and all of a sudden the baby grows and whoa--there's nothing to wear!

Maggie:)

Why not something like a savings bond? That's something that will come in handy later in life, and is more of a lasting gift to mom and dad as well.

As a soon to be parent, I'd honestly rather have something that I can use towards college someday, rather clothes that my little man can wear for rougly a few months.

Any gift that you give them will be wonderful and very much appreciated, I'm sure. I just thought I'd offer an alternative since you're looking for suggestions.

Nancy,

Just wanted to chime in that I love all three pieces and agree the logo is hardy noticeable. Also think it's a great point that many of the gifts will be for 6 months or younger, so the larger size would likely be a welcome idea.

Very cute!

Thank you all so much for your comments! Mel, I think a bond is a great idea, but I figure let the relatives give the serious gifts. My DH is just a co-worker, so we can go for the fruffy stuff. ;) I really appreciate the comments about the size. I read somewhere that babies spend most of the first 3 months sleeping, but when they're older and more active, they need more clothes.

Your opinions mean a lot to me! Thanks again! :D

Nancy,

I think that outfit is just gorgeous for a little girl!!! I remember (faintly :) ) when my DSs were born I had bought a lot of clothes and got even more as gifts but my boys were pretty big when they were born and the 0-3 months stuff lasted about a month, and it broke my heart that I had to give away some adorable outfits with the price tags still on x( and at 4 or 5 months not having any outfits anymore. So I second buying 6 - 12 months.

If you still want to look around and maybe want to get some more ideas, I usually get my gifts at www.potterybarnkids.com , they have some really cute outfits now too. I usually get toys or the bath towels with the monogram or name on it though, since they can be used longer than an outfit. Another favorite is www.landofnod.com

I wish you had been around when I had my babies :+ :p I would have LOVED those fancy outfits!!!!

How would a 12-18 mos. size be? The t-shirt is not available in the 6-12 :( Would it be silly to buy stuff she may not wear for over a year??
