Baby Food

Hi All - My second daughter (16 weeks) will soon be ready for baby food and I am wondering if any of you health nuts can give me some advice on baby food. I've recently read that you don't have to start babies on grain cereals. Has anyone started with something else.

Also, did you start by making your own or did you use jarred?

I am considering making my own but don't want to invest the time if jarred are just as good. I started my first one on cereals and then moved to jarred.

Can you make any good book recommendations. I've read a little bit about Super Baby Food.......

Thanks, Susan

Hi Susan.
I am health conscience but when it comes to babies they should have a variety. That's just my opinion, others may not agree.;-) I started Hannah on rice cereal at like 4.5 months, then moved into the yellows and oranges like carrots, squash, etc. I would use jarred and make my own. It just depends. I know someone who only made her own and he was very gassy and would get upset stomachs a lot from the natural acids. I think she went by Super Baby Food. I would use Earth's Best or Gerber for jarred. But something she loved and is very beneficial is avocado. I would mash it up real good for her and she loved it. I started to give her that when she was like 7 months. You can make them whatever you want. What it all ends up coming down to is going by what they like and will eat at this point. Hope that kinda helps:D
