Awesome low-impact combination

My new favorite combo is All Out Low Impact Hit combined with Afterburn's Express premix. It's fun with no boredom (i.e. no repeats). I'm absolutely drenched when I'm done, but it doesn't feel especially hard. I like AOLIH, but it doesn't get my heart rate up like another HiiT workout would. Adding AB Express really hits the spot! I did repeat AB Interval 9, to even out the sides on the lunge kicks and the dragging planks w/ pushups.

Anyway, I did it again today with Core #1, and the whole thing clocked in at 120 minutes and 614 calories (by my Polar). I don't have downloads, so there is some time included there for switching disks--a little extra breather. I think next time I do it, I'll start with Afterburn and then go to AOLIH, because AB gets my heart rate up better.

Elsie,

This DOES sound like a great combo! Thanks for the idea and the other idea you posted recently. But just so I'm understanding you correctly with the premix, did you mean the whole thing took 1 hour and 20 mins?

I love the variety Cathe provides, especially in the LIS. Today I did the Low Impact Challenge Extreme premix and the title doesn't lie! It was extreme and it kicked my booty, but as Cathe says it was a friendly burn!

Elsie I agree but you know what If you add 1lb weight on your hands that will add more resistance & gets your HR higher:)

I felt the same way about All Out in the beginning but now when I do it I always do the extreme premix and use 8 pound weights instead of the 5 pound weights Cathe and crew use. That really upped the intensity for me.

Yes, the entire thing took 1 hour 20 minutes: AOLIH warmup through all drills, Afterburn Express premix (no warmup or cooldown), Core #1, and then AOLIH stretch. I did Core #1 because that's what was on the schedule for where I'm at in the 90-day-rotation. So it would be over 10 minutes shorter without Core #1.

Next time I'll try starting with Afterburn and then switch to AOLIH--just to see if I like it better that way. I really like AOLIH Extreme, and I also like AfterBurn as produced, but I like this hybrid even better than either workout alone because nothing repeats. (Well, there are disc jacks and mountain climbers in both, but they're done a little differently).

I like the idea of using hand weights on AOLIH. I had upped to 8 lb. dumbbells, and that helps as well.

Thanks! Between this idea and your Hard Strikes/Boxing combo from today, my Workout Manager calendar is filling up fast! :D

I also had trouble getting my heart rate up with AOLIH but I used 3 risers on my step instead of 2 and that really helped!
