Hello! I will be traveling to Korea for work this fall (10 weeks total) but will have the opportunity to travel during Thanksgiving week. I thought Australia would be a great experience since i'm already on that side of the world.

I bought some travel books but I'd rather have real stories! Anyone here have some good tips, or what are the MUST see places???

Thanks!

Jeanette

I live in Perth (other side of Australia and its awesome!)...if youre going to QLD you must go to Movie World and the Gold Coast...also I have heard that the Whitsunday Islands are just devine.

I would also recommend the Whitsunday Islands, Hamilton Island, Hayman Island(if you can afford it!) Port Douglas/Daintree or the Sunshine Coast. What types of things to do you like to do on holiday? I live in Melbourne and have travelled up north to Queensland on many occasions. The time of year that you are visiting is perfect for Queensland as the weather is great.

Hi Jeanette

I would recommend a trip to Cairns / Port Douglas and then out to the Great Barrier Reef. I was there a few years ago and was able to spend two days and one night out on the reef on a charter boat. It was just amazing! They had different activities available (snorkelling, scuba diving - they could even take you dawn or dusk fishing on a pontoon to an area where fishing is allowed) or you could just chill out and read a book on deck. This relaxing little break felt like two weeks not two days!

Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure you will enjoy your Australian experience.

Hi Jeanette

You can check out www.queenslandholidays.com.au for lots of ideas. As stated above, I highly recommend Port Douglas/Cairns; the Whitsunday Islands (part of the Barrier Reef). The Gold Coast region has a lot of theme parks: Movie World, Dream World, Sea World, as well as beautiful beaches (and lots of high rise buildings). The Sunshine Coast region is less spoilt and beautiful, and you can't miss out on a trip to the fantastic Australia Zoo, owned by the late great Steve Irwin. Queensland is mainly about beaches, rainforests and wildlife, but there's also a good cafe society in Brisbane. As someone who went to school in Longreach, I couldn't wait to leave it for the city, but now it is very popular for those wanting to experience the Outback.

Thanks everyone for the input! I am looking forward to a little R&R but I will also want to do some light hiking and snorkeling and exploring. Nothing too crazy but I want to experience as much as I can.
