Hi, I saw your post on the "fiber" thread and I was wondering how long it took you to lose that 44 lbs, 6 yrs ago on WW. I'm just starting the 20 gm fat/30 gm fiber plan and I'm very curious. (Please say 6 wks. LOL.) Robin.

Hi Robin:

Sorry, it wasn't six weeks (you're so funny!)It took me about 10 months at WW. I lost a pound or two a week and took it very slowly, day by day. Every day is a challenge when you're trying to lose weight isn't it? So many temptations!

The only advice I can give you is enjoy what you eat if you're on a longterm program. Think about what you can eat and not about what you can't. I'm a chronic overeater -- I like to be full -- so I eat a lot of veggies (4 brocolies, 2 large cauliflowers, 1 bag of baby carrots a week) and I absolutely LOVE beans!

As I said in my previous post, I liked the program so much I'm still pretty well following it, except on weekends. My motto: On Monday to Friday I eat to live, on Saturday and Sunday I live to eat. Coffee Time Harvest Corn muffins and licorice will be my downfall. But anything I eat on Saturday night, believe me, I pay for on Sunday mornings when I do Cathe's tapes!

Sorry, I gave you more info than you asked for. Have a nice weekend -- I'm off to the gym (drat!)

Patricia

Thanks so much PatriciaP (I waited all night by the computer. LOL) OK, so NOT 6 weeks. I won't go to WW meetings, but I do have all the "stuff" I need. Also, there's a book out by Dr. G. Mirkin called "20/30 Plan" (20gm fat/30gm fiber) that I'm reading. If I combine the 2, it just might work. Of course the 20/30 book comes with a little wheel to keep track of fat/fiber and WW has the little computer thingie for points. Shoot, I won't have time to eat. Just exercise and keep up with all my numbers. Sounds like a plan.

Really, you're a big help and I appreciate your response. Robin.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-19-01 AT 08:12PM (Est)[p]Oh, Patricia, did you exercise during this time? If so, what did you do, how often, etc. Also, I don't remember any specific plan offered at WW. (I joined 4 yr ago and last spring). I just remember the Winning Points deal. Is this plan something you purchase separately? THANKS. Sorry I'm soooooo nosey. Robin.

'Ello again, Robin:

Sorry I can't respond quickly to your letters -- I don't have a home computer and have to use the computer at the office -- Am I a bad worker bee or what? And honey, I don't work weekends, and I don't do windows! (tee hee) -- Don't know if I'm brave enough to try out those "emotion icons -- happy faces" -- maybe when I get used to posting, huh? This was my very first posting on the internet, let alone cathe.com.

In answer to your question, yes, I did exercise during the time I lost 44 lbs. I started by getting off my streetcar on my way to work 3 or 4 stops early and walking the rest of the way. Gradually, by getting out of bed an additional few minutes a day, I started walking from home 'til about 3/4 the way to work -- a little over an hour at a good, brisk pace. A few times I made it all the way, but found I was too dragged out by the time I got to work.

When winter came, as it inevitably does in Toronto, I re-joined a small for-women-only gym a few blocks from work, and started doing the treadmill and stair climber (by that time, I'd already lost 40 lbs by eating right and walking); eventually, I bit the bullet and took a few aerobics classes (I was too SCARED up t'il then to actually work out on the dance floor with all those women who looked like they knew what they were doing -- I have two left feet).

Regarding the WW Fat & Fibre program, they had just started it the year I joined, January 7, 1995. I liked it because I didn't to fiddle-faddle with recipes, and such. (I don't cook -- I steam or microwave).I live alone so I don't have to cook for kids and husband. I also tend to eat the same foods over and over again. I don't like to think about what I'm going to eat too much -- I'm far too lazy. High-fibre, low-sugar cereal in the morning, a very large veggie-only salad or President's Choice soup for lunch, and veggies, beans, "carb du jour" (sometimes chicken), and fruit for dinner. Basically, all you have to do is count fat and fibre grams in food, and keep sugars to a minimum. Regular, health guide stuff. WW gave me a separate booklet on the Fat & Fibre plan that listed all the FF in foods -- bread, veggies, fruit, etc. I also carefully check labels in processed foods, and eat as cleanly as possible. Every now and then, I add new things -- right now, I'm trying to put flax seed on my cereal and salads because I hear they're good for you.

But, as I said in a previous post, the weekends are for having treats. I only have my treats at night -- I always behave myself during the day. I figure eating my carefully-chosen treats at the very end of the day takes away the urge to binge or to continuously eat, since I don't want to have to leave the apartment at night to buy more treats. I just wanna brush my teeth and go to bed!

I haven't been to a WW meeting in about three and a half years. I found weighing in was too stressful; besides, I'm pretty certain by my clothes I haven't gained the weight back. So I don't know if the Fat & Fibre plan is still being sold by WW.

Gotta go, the boss is acomin'!! (just kidding). Nice talking to you, Robin (and you're not nosey!)

Patricia

Thanks so much for responding. I know you are hard at work and only post during your very limited "break". Hee Hee!

Yep, that diet sounds exactly like what I'm doing now on the 20/30 plan. I don't remember anything about it at WW. If they have it, they should push it. It's absolutely the healthiest and most "doable" way of eating in my opinion.

I'm Firming and Catheing, (and a little Karen Voighting) with this and, I swear, I feel skinnier every a.m.

Anyhoo, thanks for bothering with me. Continued good luck to you. Robin.
