On Tuesday a news bulletin announced that Bausch & Lomb were removing current stocks of their solution "Renu No Rub" and recalling them from stockists because a connection had been made between an outbreak of particularly virulent eye infections and the use of this solution. It is thought that the solution just is not killing all the bacteria as the lenses soak, thus you are recontaminating your eye each time you insert the lenses.

I am a statistic because I contracted this nasty infection and my optician alerted me to the news of the epidemic. My eyeball was so inflammed, red as tomato ketchup, painful, which causes constant headaches, and so sensitive to light that I could not even keep my eye open long enough to drive and watch the roads as I did so. Very dangerous. It did not respond to the first antiobiotic precribed and necessitated return trips to opticians and more expensive treatments.

So, please, if you use this solution, THROW IT OUT, CONSULT YOUR OPTICIAN AND SELECT DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS FOR DISINFECTING YOUR LENSES.

Thanks for the info. I just checked the Bausch & Lomb website and it is the Renu with MoistureLoc that has been recalled. Here's a link to their website: http://www.bausch.com

I need to check my supply of contact lense solution and make sure I don't have any of this stuff. I usually use their Renu MultiPlus (which doesn't appear to be the subject of the recall) but I may have bought the other stuff to try out.

Thanks again,
Michelle

Thanks for the info. I never use B&L, my eyes are real senstive to that stuff, they burn like crazy when I use it. I use Opti Free and have never had a problem. This is very scary, eye infections aren't something to take lightly.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS RECALL. Last I'd heard they were just researching the problem. So, I just went to Target and got some different solution. The doctor at Pearle Vision told me to get either the Opti-Free No Rub or the Replenish. I got the no-rub since it has been out longer and didn't really seem to be much different than the Replenish except for the moisturizing agent. I also bought a new case and different wetting drops (yes I'm paranoid).

I had a corneal ulcer last year. I was still using the old regular Opti-Free saline solution and the enzyme tabs twice a week. But I got my infection from (I think) not replacing my contacts for 4 years (they were the kind that last a year and then needed to be replaced).

Thanks!! I actually just bought the small size to use for travel and bought one for my mom too - I haven't used it yet and I'm glad I saw this before I did, just in case.
