Article-How to lose weight like a guy

Thank you for this. It was very enjoyable reading and so true.

(Once DH decided he needed to lose some weight. He went on a 2-week almost all veggie diet and lost like 10 lbs. Not the healthiest way? Maybe. But, it would take me like 3 months to lose 10 lbs).

I'm glad there are articles like this promoting heavy weights to counter those articles that pop up once in a while that dismiss the benefits of building muscle.

I enjoyed this, too, and I think she comes up with some great ideas. My favorite line: "The bad habits guys overcome (beer and chips) seem to result in instant weight loss, while ours (mistaking a box of Ring Dings for a therapist) seem too emotionally hardwired to short-circuit." I'll think of this the next time DH tells me he lost 5 pounds without even trying...

It was a good article, and no doubt true for the vast majority of guys. But MY guy always reaches for sweets, and is always at least 30 lbs. overweight. :(

Thanks for the article! I just sent it to DH...maybe he will now understand why I wasn't leaping for joy when his body fat % came down to below mine. He had done Power 90 for one month along with moderate, healthier eating. I, on the other hand, have been at this for 3 years. I can say that his body fat % has brought out the competitve edge in me, however....}(

I saw this one yesterday. I really liked it. This sounded familiar:

"Then we fall like starved dogs on year-old Halloween candy stuck to the back of the freezer"

Ahem:p

Aaaaahhhhh...a positive thing about being with a guy who is NATURALLY thin (and thinner than me!)...I don't ever have to worry about him losing 10# in a week!:p

Great article- thanks for sharing!

The article got me thinking. In most of Cathe's workouts, you do two or three sets of at least 10-12 reps. According to the article, if you can do the two sets, you are lifting too light. What do you guys think?

I think that means I can up my weights then! I'll actually feel STRONG! LOL :p

Seriously though...all I have ever heard is that you should work to failure...if you can keep going once the exercise is over then your weights were too light...

I just read this article in Prevention magazine, while at the doctor's office. And, after doing p90x, I'm 100 percent in favor of 8-10 rep, heavy weights, at least for most of my lifting. I'm on a lighter rotation now and really missing those heavy weights.

What I though was interesting was the comment about uping your weights until you can only do three reps.

ETA: Shelley that was my favorite quote too. I LOL'ed when I read it! So true...

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow - what a ride!’ — Peter Sage

This is all very interesting. My DH has NEVER had a weight problem. When we first started dating, he was working out at a local gym, and was eating every 3 hours, and always drinking plenty of water, he looked great! I on the other hand, didn't belong to a gym and didn't know of Cathe at the time, so I found myself eating every three hours as he did, and I would occasionally drink water, long story short I couldn't understand why I was gaining and he wasn't, he was going for mass eating like 3000 cals a day. He always told me... count your calories, I wouldn't listen "it's too much trouble, it's too hard." Well, one day it all made perfect since to me and this was about two years ago, I started counting my calories, drinking more water than I ever have, and most important was getting my body moving...to none other than Cathe! Since then I've lost and kept off 23 to 25 lbs. I've cut out a lot of sweets, not an easy task for me, I've also tried to up my protein intake, it's hard, but it's a choice for me to be healthy and feel good. I have incorporated "good mornings" with some of my dvds of Cathe's just to change things up and I've noticed a difference in the way the back of my legs and butt are shaping up. My DH had always told me to do what I'm doing now, so I guess it's true with this article. It's not a quick fix, it's something I see myself doing for the rest of my life as long as my health will allow it! Thanks to these forums and all you gals, I'm still learning and being encouraged everyday! Gosh, didn't mean for this to be so long...sorry! Just wanted to share!

Interesting concept, but not safely doable for most of us at home (unless we have some kind of equipement and/or spotters).

This is a very good article - I have long felt that women should take a clue from guys when they try to lose weight.
