Area Rugs

I have had a polypropylene area rug for about 10 years. It held up with the exception of the binding around the edge has been coming off for years. It is a very traditional oriental style that really hides the dirt/ dog hair. I am in the market for a new area rug. I went and looked and the salesman said wool is the way to go. So my question is for those that have area rugs what work you guys recommend or not recommend? Brands?

Needs to be good for:

Family room
family of 5
plus one Rottweiler (black hair)
We do eat in here sometimes also for family movie nights
this is also where I WO
More contemporary style would be better than traditional

I found good area rugs at Lowes. I get them years ago and they have held up well and do hide the dirt. I have two large dogs and two hairy cats. They are 5x7 oriental design and are actually very soft. I have them in the living room which is also my WO area. I think I paid around 230$ for the two. Mainly tan in color with some dark red and blue. Hope this helps!

I'm looking for a rug too, and thought I'd let you know that rugsusa has many for 50% off and free shipping right now. You can refine by transitional or contemporary style.
