Are you a brand snob?

lol. I mean grocery store items, but of course! Do you buy specific brands for cetain things you just can't do without? I can think of quite a few, actually. I guess I didn't realize how many until I thought about it. Gotta have my Heinz ketchup, bounty paper towels, and Scott's toilet tissue. I'm also partial to Philadelphia cream cheese when we get it. Oh, I love Vlasic dill pickles, too. Any other is a big phhhhbt. Oh man, I'm sure there's more. Other things I'll get the cheapest that meets my needs, like pasta, paper products, or vities. What about you all?

I'm not loyal to many brands but I insist on King Arthur Flour, Heinz Ketchup, French's Mustard and Hellman's Mayo. Other than that, it's whatever I can get on sale. I actually prefer store brand veggies, tomatoes, and beans to the competitive brands.

I definitely can be with certain things. Heinz ketchup is a must. Any other kind makes me think of Vacation, the movie, "real tomato ketchup Eddie?" "Nothing but the best, Clark" Coffee is another one, I love Tully's...there are a couple others that will do, but I can't, no WON'T skimp on coffee!!! Or tuna! Or toilet paper, I use Kleenex cottonelle. No store brands of tp on this tushie!

What!?...What!?...Cheap pasta!? Nay...NEVER! I must have Rustichella, Latini, or De Cecco pasta and no other brand will do. Try them and you'll never go back. Trust me, not all pasta's are created equal;) :p

- Paper towels - Bounty
- Toilet paper - Charmin
- Commercial bread - Pepperidge Farm or Brownberry (but only if I can't find my Pepperidge Farm)
- Dove Body Wash for sensitive skin
- Dermadoctor facial products

I know there's lots more, I just can't think of them right now.

Edited to add, I used to use Heinz Ketchup until I realized who owned it, then I switched to Hunt's whereupon I made a remarkable discovery. I truly like Hunt's better! (Tomato crops for Heinz are grown a stones throw from my hometown).

ETA again because, after reading the above posts, I thought of a few more things.

- Mustard - Maille
- mayo - when I use it, which is rare, it must be Hellman's unless of course, I make my own :9
- canned tomatoes - Muir Glen or San Marzano

*jots down notes*

thanks micheleemoo :)

Hi All

I use store brand,paper towels,toilet tissue,soda drinks,paper plates,eggs,milk,....well I guess everything!

I will only buy natures own 100% wheat bread,my husband demands delmonte ketchup, helmens mayo,Maxwell house coffee.I have to have peanut wonder,Mccanns Irish Oats,Frozsun tropical fruit(yum)for my smoothies.I love Boars head turkeybreast(oven gold) but will settle for oscar myer!Oh and orville redenbachers smart pop butter popcorn!

Amy:)

my husband is too embarrassed to drink store pop at work, so it has to be coke or pepsi brand. Oh, and no store brand frozen meals, that's embarrassing too! I must have "real" diapers and wipes, have tried the store brands with little success. I do buy a lot of generic "store" brand food. I actually bought store brand "oreos" the other day and they were really good.

Heinz ketchup, Arnolds wheat bread, Kraft mayo, Cabot cheese, Bounty papertowel, Charmin toilet paper, Prego spaghetti sauce, Nestle choc chips, but a lot of things store brand or whichever brand is cheaper that week. I buy some things at a surplus grocery where I have never heard of half of the brands.

It depends.

My concern regarding paper products is recycled, not brand. I don't care what brand of cheese I get, supermarket own brand suits me. My concern when grocery shopping is cost, budget.

If I am buying clothing, however, then yes, brand matters because I never wear clothes out. I have them forever, so I want good quality that will last and always look good. I hate cheaply made clothes, with badly sewn seams, threads hanging, seams that "travel" after washing, etc. I am a snob when it comes to clothes. I will not wear, for example, Target own brand type clothes. Give me Anthropologie, BCBG, Max Azria, Donna Karan, etc. Often, though, these good duds come from surprise finds at T J Maxx!

If I am buying electronic goods, brand matters again, although not so much if I am offered a free DVD player through my credit card! I'll take whatever brand they give me, and I did!

I couldn't care less what brand of tomato ketchup I buy! I don't eat it anyway, yuck!

Oh Debbie - I am a HUGE brand snob! I realized this a while back when my Mom & I had this discussion. Too many to name but a few:

Oatmeal - McCann's Irish Oatmeal
Paper towels - Bounty only
Toilet Paper - Kleenex cottonelle triple rolls
Ketchup - Heinz
Cheese - Kraft
Peanut butter - Peanut Wonder
Milk - Prairie Farms
Body Wash - Oil of Olay
Dishsoap - Dawn & Cascade for the dishwasher
Laundry - Tide w/ bleach
Fabric softner - Downy
Hair products - Matrix Sleek looks & Matrix Biologe

Ugh... tons more but I think that is enough to prove I have a problem!

:)

My SO is a food snob, he always says, "you get what you pay for." He hates it if I buy anything generic, especially milk. If it tastes "off" he accuses me of buying the store brand, lol.

I'm with Michele on the pasta, or would be if I ever cooked pasta. :p

The only popcorn I eat is Orville Redenbacher's Smartpop and if the store is out of it, I don't eat popcorn.

Newman's salad dressing. I never buy any other brand for myself.

Interestingly, I won't buy Newman's popcorn. Like many other popcorn brands I've tried, it burns too easily.

Well I guess I tend to go back and forth on being a brand snob. Of course there are the basic things like tissue that I must have in my specific brand (which I do not know what it is, I just know what it looks like, maybe Charmin). But there are time when I venture out and try store names, and even though the paper towels work well enough, the bacon I tried was horrible, so tough you could hardly eat. So I guess in all in all it seems as though you do get what you pay for, it is just deciding what items we can do with a little less quality!

But I am with Mf545 from the earlier post, I totally quit buying Heinz for the same reason...how funny!

Kelli

I have to buy coast soap and Scott toliet paper and diet pepsi. Everything else I am ok with well I am sure if think about it I could come up with more.
