Are protein bars OK?

Hi guys, I have another question. I'm 11 weeks along, and I find myself still feeling pretty icky at lunch time and only wanting carbs. I really want to not ignore my body's needs for protein, but the thought of meat or cheese or eggs during this time of day is pretty gross to me. Is it OK to eat a protein bar from time to time? I used to eat one every day pre-conception. I eat the Zone bars. I know I could do one of those and some fruit.

Hey Stephanie! Good to see you! I'll be 10 weeks on Saturday and I'm in the same boat. I used to "live for protein" and now I "live for carbs". My fave protein bar was Larabars. They are completely all natural - quite literally nuts and dates and somehow they are so yummy. I'm not sure hat all is added to the others/if its healthy for the baby. I would avoid any soy products right now for sure.

Larabars were one of my favorite treats and now the thought of eating one makes me want to heave. Oh baby! Hopefully once the 2nd tri hits I'll be more like my pre-preg self!

HTH - Maybe someone can give you a more educated answer.

Stephanie,

I initailly lost my taste in the beginning for protein bars but
it did come back. I no longer ate the Nitrotech or Mesotech
because of all the funky stuff in them. But I did really enjoy
many of the Luna Bars. Not too high in carbs/sugar. I like the
Lara Bars like Kate mentioned. The only problem I had was they
did little to fill me. Carb Rite Bars are great too. I love them
for a snack not a meal replacement.

Good Luck!!

I have a protein shake everyday!
I love Atkins Advantage shakes, and they really get my little man kicking first thing in the morning!

I've been drinking them since pre-pregnancy, and I'm 26 weeks at this point.

Yes, "think thin bars" are great. I just found them a few weeks ago.
I have a few in my desk right now. 20 grams of protein, sugar and
gluten free and 240 calories. The fat content is 8 but the sat. fat
is 4. Not bad and tasty!
