Anyone suffer from hyperhydrosis?

I'm just curious if anyone else has this problem. For those of you who don't know, hyperhydrosis is basically just a case of extreme sweating, even for no reason at all. There are several different kinds that can affect different areas of the body (palms, uderarms, feet, etc.) I was diagnosed with it back in high school and have been miserable for as long as I can remember because of it.
Last July I actually had a pretty invasive surgery to correct the upper body areas (hands and underarms) and it worked great! The problem is that now my legs and mid-section sweat excessively when I get really hot, especially when I work out. It's really wierd!! I guess that it has to come out somewhere! The other problem is that I seem to get over-heated really easily and have to do my Cathe workouts in front of a big box fan! My feet also get really hot and I sometimes have to stop for a second to take off my shoes so that my feet can get some air! What a mess it is.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has this problem and has had the surgery, or is even thinking about having it. There is now a procedure to correct the lower body, but I'm scared that if I have it I won't be able to work out intensely any more b/c of the over-heating. Any thoughts on the subject are appreciated.

Hi Ashley,

I feel for ya! For as long as I can remember, I've avoided most colored shirts for fear that I'd sweat right through it. My underarms are a major problem, the right more so than the left. My face gets especially sweaty also when I'm feeling anxious. I read about the surgery that sort of cuts of the sweat glands in your underarms for example, and one of the major issues is compensatory sweating, which I think you are experiencing. As you said, the sweat has to be released somewhere. If you can afford botox, injections every few months in the problem spots do the trick. Otherwise, the dermatologist can prescribe Drysol, a special antiperspirant that is supposed to prevent sweating. I've been using it for a few years. The problem has improved but the Drysol doesn't always seem to work. Another downside is that sometimes when I put it on after the shower it literally burns my skin and leaves red marks. I actually put lidocane (SP?) gel on once! You can also use Drysol on your feet, but I don't think it'd be appropriate for your legs.

Thanks for your input. I actually tried Drysol a long time ago and it didn't help at all! The doctor was sure to try every other alternative before resorting to surgery. The only thing that I haven't tried is the botox injection. I've thought about having them in my feet, but they are just so expensive and don't last for very long. Have you had any of the injections? If so, was it worth the expense?
Thanks!!!!!!

Hi Ashley,

No, I have never tried the Botox because it isn't in the budget. I suppose it's worth the expense if you can afford it, because it does work, but then again, it's only temporary.
