Anyone pregnant and have Hypothyroidism?

Hi,

My name is Laura. I am 24 and this is my second pregnancy. I have a 4 yr old daughter. I found out I had Hypothyroidism after my daughter was born. They told me it was caused by my first pregnancy. Now, I am pregnant, but have hypothyroidism. Has anyone had any pregnancy difficulties with Hypothyroid? I am kind of nervous cause I never had this problem with my first prego, but now I do.

Thanks,
Laura

Hi Laura, I too have hypothyroidism, have a 4 year old daughter (well, soon to be 5) and am 36 weeks preg with my 2nd. I've had a thyroid problem since I was (i think) 13. I'm on medication and have had no problems. My obgyn monitors my thyroid level via blood tests but other than that, no problems what so ever even with my first preg. Hope this helps and good luck.

Hi Patricia,

My daughter is about to be 5 yrs old too, really soon, in May. Thanks for the information. I feel a lot better. I was so worried that something wrong might happen with this pregnancy, since I never had Hypothyroidism with my first pregnancy. I went to the doctor today and they told me that when I go to my OB, that they will monitor my thyroid for me and all. I have had Hypothyroid for almost 3 years now and all the tests have been normal so far. Hopefully with my pregnancy it doesn't get too crazy. Thank you again so much! I hope you have a wonderful delivery =o)

Hi Laura,

I've had hypothyroidism for quite a few years now, including during my first pregnancy. I had bloodwork done every month or so to check my thyroid level. The most important thing you must do is stay consistent with your medication. I am taking Synthroid and never miss a day. I had no problems at all with my first pregnancy, and hopefully won't have any with my second (due 9-1-06). It freaked me out when I was first diagnosed, but it's not a big deal.

Good luck and happy pregnancy!

Jen:)

Hi Jen!

Thanks for letting me know that your pregnancy went well having Hypothyroidism. It really makes me feel a lot better and not to worry so much. I was really scared when I got pregnant, cause I didn't have this with my first pregnancy and I thought something might go wrong with this pregnancy. So far everything is going good. I am 3 months pregnant now. I am due on Sept 18th (18 days from you :) ). I have had Hypothyroidism for about 3 years now and all the blood work comes back normal. I am taking Synthroid 0.075mg. They haven't checked me since I got pregnant. They told me they will check my Thyroid next month and after that it will be every 3 months. I wish they would do it more often instead of every 3 months. Have you done your Thyroid check while pregnant with your second? When you were pregnant before did the test results always came back normal or did you need to have your medication adjusted?

Thanks so much again and Happy Pregnancy to you too:D

Hi Laura,

Definitely don't stress about the hypothyroidism. My level remained the same during my first, and I think it was checked every 8 or 12 weeks. I am on the same dosage of Synthroid that I started out on when I was first diagnosed years ago. I've had it checked once so far during this pregnancy, and everything came back as normal. You shouldn't have any problems as long as you take your meds. It should and will hopefully be absolutely no problem at all. Believe me, I totally freaked during the first pregnancy, but all went great. Hypothyroidism is probably one of the "easiest" conditions to bear while pregnant. If you have any other questions or concerns, please let me know. It's always good to talk to someone who's been there, done that.

You and baby will be fine! :)

Hi Jen!

Thanks so much! It is good to talk to someone who is going through the same thing as I am and understands. It does help me to feel a lot better about my pregnancy and not to worry. I know so far I have been feeling good with this pregnancy, except I am tired, but I don't think it's because of my Thyroid, I think it is cause of pregnancy :) Next month I will get my Thyroid checked and I hope it comes back normal :) I will let you know what happens. Hey, if you want we can keep in touch since we are both going through the same thing, and we are both due around the same time with our second child. My email is [email protected], feel free to email me. Thanks again so much!

Laura

Hi Laura,

I'm sure you won't have any problems. I bet everything comes back normal. I don't know about you, but I have an 18-month-old running around here that I didn't have during the last pregnancy - talk about being tired! I don't know what I'll do when #2 shows up! I think I was having thyroid issues at the start of this pregnancy because I was so ridiculously tired, but I realized that I am a couple years older, I have a child and I have a stressful job - poor combination! At least my tests came back normal, and I'm not quite as tired now - yay! Definitely e-mail me anytime as well - [email protected]. It's good to have a friend in cyberspace! :)

Take care,
Jen
