Anyone Hypothyroid on T3 as well as synthroid?

I'm hypothyroid but just took another annual test and now I'm hyperthyroid, funny thing I haven't lost any weight because of it, darn! Anyway, my levels seem to go back and forth each year, I'm wondering if T3 in addition to my medication would help? Anyone else use this? I get tired of the merry go round. Thanks for any replies.

Hi Mic,
I acually have Grave's Disease, or hyperthyroid. I have been in "remission" for a few years. I am not currently medicated now for it, but when I was I was taking a drug called PTU. I was diagnosed late when I was 10, so I had lost alot of weight! But, I was a kid.
Just keep up with it so it doesn't get out of control as it can affect your organs, primarily your heart (although you probably already know that)!

I take Armour Thyroid for hypothyroidism. My test results stay pretty low and steady all the time. I haven't had to change dosages for years. I am much happier with the natural thyroid rather than the Synthroid, though. I just feel better, I'm less tired, and my hair finally stopped falling out in clumps.

I have heard a lot about Armour Thyroid medication, because usually after I go hyperthyroid I then go hypothyroid. Do you think most doctors would be willing to prescribe the Armour Thyroid, I'm really getting frustrated. My energy level right now is so low it's really difficult to keep working out. Endurance, endurance.

In my case, I had to insist on it. I presented my case to my doctor, showed her that I understood the risks and benefits (and that I knew how it is made), and then I asked her to at least try it. It has helped immensely.

I was just diagnosed in April and started treatment with Synthroid. I felt a little better, but not much, so my doctor added Armour (yes, I'm on both, a little unconventional but it seems to be working). It's made a huge difference - and one of the most noticeable differences is on endurance. I could barely get through half a Cathe step workout before. I loved them, I'd just get exhausted and clumsy. Now I can easily complete an entire workout. Well not "easily" (considering the source!).

I highly recommend finding a doctor who will prescribe Armour. I've read a lot about thyroid disease over the past few months and read tons of stories online about women whose lives were changed after switching to Armour.

Not sure if Armour would help stop you from going hyper though - that seems to me more a matter of finding the perfect dose for you.

Here's a website with tons of info on thyroid disease and a list of patient-recommended doctors: http://www.thyroid-info.com/topdrs/index.htm - I used it to find mine.

Good luck! Keep us posted...
