Anyone have a Mio HRM?

I just got one for Christmas and it's marketed to be great because it doesn't require a chest strap. I'm confused though because it doesn't allow you to input your weight. How can it measure my calories burned if it only knows my age and sex?

I also think it's incredibly bulky on my wrist. I haven't used it yet while working out--I'm used to my Polar F4. Plus, to get a heart rate reading, I have to hold two fingers on it's buttons for 4-7 seconds--I don't get a continuous reading like I do with my Polar.

Just thought I'd see if anyone has one and what their feelings are on it....

TIA!

Which model did you get? I've worn the Mio Shape for the last several years and recently got the Drive model and loved both of them. They both had the feature to input your weight. It takes a bit of getting used to taking your HR throughout, but I'm used to it. I make sure I get a good average of readings....both when my HR is at it's peak and it's lowest. I've been very happy with all of my Mio's. The Ultimate has the chest strap and finger pads. That's the one I wanted last time....but I didn't have enough money.

Hi Lora! Thanks SO much for responding! I have the Mio Breeze. I just got it for Christmas. I actually haven't used it yet, since I still can't figure out how to input my weight and so I've just decided to stick with my Polar for now. I'll keep looking for a place to put in weight though. There's gotta be an area right? I'm glad to know you like your Mio's. I won't give up on this one just yet.

Thanks again!

Hey Allison

I have the MIO Sport Select. It doesn't have a chest strap either. I do have the option to put the weight in. It is a little bulky, and sometimes it doesn't give me my HR immediately. And it is annoying to push those 2 buttons, but overall I have been happy with it. Granted, I think I only spent around $35 or so it. It gives me my cal burn, etc.

As as side note, in my directions, it says: 'If you don't get your HR, you may fall into a category of people...with low resting HR,very irregular heart rate (!), and an irregular heart beat or small ECG signal.'

Hope that helps a little with your decision!

They also tell you to put it on about 1/2 hour prior to your workout and if you don't get a HR again, wet your fingers to use the pads.....but my Drive takes my HR much better than my older Mio Shape and it gives me higher calorie burns too! I had my DH set my stats in it cuz I'm a klutz.....but he swears he set it correctly. Mine takes my birth date, gender and weight for stats and resting heart rate also. It also has a feature that has an alarm go off everytime you burn 3500 calories (the amount to lose a pound) and that's why it's called Drive......as you are supposed to burn 3500 calories a week and it's tough for me to do that even being an exercise fanatic....but most weeks...I make it.

ETA: Also - go to Mio's website www.gophysical.com and there is a chart of all of the models and it compares each of their features. ......it's great for seeing which model does what and you can make sure yours has that option, etc.
