Anyone have a Bosu Trainer?

If so, how do you like it? Can it be used in place of a step for when doing doing step aerobics? What kind of results did you see from using the Bosu?

I'm thinking of asking for one for Christmas but really want some feedback first.

Any feedback good or bad is appreciated.

Thanks,

Diana

I love mine but I would not recommend doing traditional step aerobic workouts on it. It's not meant for that. There aren't a lot of workouts made for it but the "danciest" one I know is Cardio Fusion with Rob Glick, and while they do some step moves in this one, it's nothing like Cathe's or other advanced step workouts. It was originally designed by a PT for balance and core work, and that's still what I would primarily recommend using it for. I also have Reactive Strength & Power with Gay Gasper, BOSU Equilibrium with Jay Blahnik, and Core Synergy with Candice Copeland. I love all the workouts but they take a great deal of balance and very strong core muscles. It's a very different way of working out and some people don't care for it. I love anything that challenges my core muscles and these workouts still do, even as much as I've done them. Bear in mind also it's about ten inches tall so any "step" done on it will not only be done on an unstable surface (which again it's meant to be) but it will be like doing so on a ten inch platform. It's not meant for this at all. It's meant for balance and core work.

HTH!

My Bosu is deflated and gathering dust. (It has a slow leak, so whenever I used it, I had to blow it up again....what a pain!).

You could do SOME types of step aerobics on it: the kind the Firm does (or used to do), some early Kathy Smith tapes. Workouts with a slower BPM and more basic moves. DEFINITELY NOT a Cathe workout, unless you want to twist or break something!

I have one gathering dust. I didn't like it from the get-go. I thought I could use it as a rebounder. hah. bad idea. I can barely stand and balance on it, let alone do that Rob Glick step tape. I guess I could use the balance work, but I just hate the thing. I'd rather do yoga one legged poses to get my balance work in. Which I'm really good at, which is why I don't know why I can't balance on that thing. As for core work, there are some moves that are enhanced by the BOSU, like an advanced version of the stability ball. But honestly I just don't think you get enough out of it to be worth the money. People seem to either love them or hate them. See if you can try one out at a club before buying to see if you like it. Or buy mine!

I see that I'm in the minority here, but I like mine. It's a nice addition to regular step. It is tough, but that's why I think I get a good workout from it. Rob Glick's workout is great and I also have the one from Gay Gasper(I didn't care for the others). It took a couple of times to get it down as well as the instructors do, but learning a Cathe workout isn't always perfect on the first try either. The Bosu comes with a measurement guide to show you how full to fill it, so even though it's squishy, it shouldn't be THAT squishy, which I can tell when it needs some more air because it's even more difficult than it usually is. Once you get the hang of it, it's a killer workout. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who says this is too easy for them, because with the balance/core issue and all the moving around you do, I work up a serious sweat.
Definitely go try a Bosu class and see what you think, I bought it off the advice of a friend of mine and I don't regret it.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I definitely need to try one out before spending a hundred on something that might just become a dust collector.

Diana, I would definitely recommend trying it out first. If you have a Dick's Sporting Goods near you they usually have them. Probably any high end sporting goods store or fitness store will have one you can try first. It takes some getting used to, but your core muscles will be killer once you master it. I've never once regretted buying mine.

Love mine! It's touchy for my chronically sprained ankles, but I don't do any tough step on it. The bosu workouts available are good, although I wish there were more. But I do some step on it----Step it Strong with Keli Roberts is one that converts GREAT to the bosu. I think it is good for the core, but I REALLY feel it more in my legs than traditional step.

I sprained my ankle while doing Rob Glicks Bosu workout. It ended up sidelining me for over seven months. Still twinges on me. Sold mine. I sometimes regret it and wish I had kept it but I was so gun shy that I couldn't bear to use it again.

The one time I ever went to a PT, he had me balance and do push-up on it. I of course was on my knees so the push up didn't seem extra hard maybe just a little wobbly. I'd like to incorporate one into my workouts at home and just cannot justify spending 100 for it. Maybe I'll peruse ebay and see if someone has one they want to get rid of reasonably.
