Anyone had a tubal ligation reversal?

In 2005, after my sixth miscarriage, my doctor made the recommendation that I consent do a tubal ligation after my d&c since I would already be under anesthesia.

I should mention here that I'm 30 and do have two healthy children, but I really wanted another baby. However, pregnancy doesn't seem to like me most of the time. Long story for another time...Anyway, at the time I was so devastated at losing yet another pregnancy that the thought of a ligation sounded good to me, so my husband and I consented to the second surgery. Mind you, I was told my baby had died and was given ten minutes to make the ligation decision. How could my doctor think I was in any state of mind to make such a decision?!

Sorry to ramble there for a minute. I have so regretted the decision ever since. I have found Dr. Gary Berger in Chapel Hill that specializes in tubal reversals. If I do it, he will be the surgeon.

So have you any of you had a reversal and a successful pregnancy afterward? I've read lots of stories on Dr. Berger's message boards, but I'd like some input from all of you here as well. Thanks.

I haven't. I used to belong on a reversal for vasectomies and tubal ligation yahoo group where many ladies did. My dh had the reversal. Unfortunately, the list disbanded a year or so ago.

My personal observation was that the ligation reversals were more successful than the vasectomy reversals. Many ladies there had babies after their reversals. Some of the ladies even traveled to a doctor in Mexico since it was cheaper.

If you do a google search, you should find other groups and testimonies. You may also need to find out what type of tubal ligation you got, how much they took out, etc... I would also recommend learning about the different surgical techniques available. The last thing you need is scar tissue and an etopic pregnancy. After you finish researching, you can decide if this doctor lines up with what you want.

I've done a lot of research on it- almost two years worth. I had the clamp procedure done, in which they only clamped 1 cm of tube. The clamps work by basically strangulating the tissue which dies and falls off.

I've also done just as much research regarding the surgical techniques available, which is how I came to find Dr. Berger and his method. I know there's always the risk of scar tissue no matter what surgical method used. My fertility specialist does ultrasounds every two weeks from the positive pregnancy test up to week 12 to make sure the pregnancy is in the uterus, and also to catch early miscarriage. I'm not too concerned about an ectopic pregnancy since I know it would be caught early if it happened. I also know that would mean no more babies for sure.

I have not had this done but my friend did. She had 2 daughters and a divorce. When she remarried they decided they would like a child together so she had a reversal done and did go on to successful pregnancy and another daughter. Best of luck to you.

I actually had a tubal reversal with dr berger about 5 years ago. I had a lot of damage to my fallopian tubes so the procedure didn't result in a viable pregnancy for me. I did have a tubal pregnancy and the complications from that. Since you only had clips the chance for reversal is a lot better for you. I didn't neccessarily just want more children i also suffered from post tubal ligation syndrome and that did go away and that made it all worth it to me. dr berger is the best and had such a gentle manner about him, even though i didn't get pregnant i would do it all over again in a minute.

Trish,

That's so great to hear you would do it again anyway. I think I'm suffering a bit from post tubal ligation syndrome myself which is a secondary reason for considering the surgery. I have been corresponding with Dr. Berger through emails, and I am so impressed with his demeanor and willingness to answer my questions. Thanks for your post.
