Anyone else "thick" through the chest?

And I don't mean the boob area either}( When I was growing up my mom use to always put one had on my rib cage and the other on my back and say "my...you are so thick through the chest..Im not like that, just feel". I am bigger boned then my sister and my mother, yet I am smaller then both of them.

I never noticed it before until recently.Last yr when I was a bridesmaid for a wedding, we ordered my dress in a size 6.Which was fine...but as the day went on, I found it harder and harder to breath. But I still had loads of room in the waist and hip area.By the end of the night, I couldn't wait to get the dress off!

So...now I have to stand for another wedding in June.I tried on a size 4 in a dress, just to see what it was like, and although I had the dress on and 1/2 way done up, it would not go pass my rib cage. I ordered the dress in a size 6 b/c that should be fine but I don't really want to go through another night of torture either.
And I am starting to notice that when I wear a tight shirt, you can see my ribs sticking out.
Did God make anyone else like this? I was just wondering, I know there isn't much I can do about it.And I hope chest work doesn't edge it on either.

RE: Anyone else

Lori,
I also have a slightly larger rib cage than the rest of my size. When I was in dance classes as a young girl our instructor was always trying to get us to tighten our core, w/o sticking out our "chests", something that I still find nearly impossible. God made me like this as well, b/c my mom is totally the opposite as well! LOL. Prom dresses, wedding dress, I'm suffering right along with you. And you can see me ribs above my abs as well. I usually find that empire waists work nicely b/c they can be the exact size they need to across the chest w/o having to feel too big in the waist/hip area. No advice on how to fix this, (have a rib or two removed:p ) I'm interested to hear what others say, but I don't think that chest work makes much difference at all.

RE: Anyone else

Lori,

My ribs stick out more then most. Not sure why this is, but chest being thick...no, don't think so. ;-)

RE: Anyone else

Yes, Lori....I am also like that. Always have been. As I am so short, it really stinks trying to find anything that will fit attractively, because I always have to buy a size that is bigger than what the rest of my frame calls for.

I also have the shoulder width of a mini-linebacker. If you saw me in a fitted shirt from the back you would think I have a beautiful "V-taper", but if you saw me without the shirt you would see it ain't chisled muscle, it is just bone width. Oh well.

I haven't found chest or back work to add size to my upper torso; in fact, it seems to tighten up the muscles more and make me appear a bit smaller....so far.

RE: Anyone else

Thanks for your responses girls! With normal every day clothes,I never think about this but when I tried on another bridesmaids dress the other day it brought it all back to me!LOL
I figured there had to be someone else out there with my problem!
Julie, I couldn't really see it being a problem with working out but you never know, right? Its good to know that you look better b/c you workout!

RE: Anyone else

Lori - another one like that. It's nice in that I will never look flat chested, but at 5'10, I will never look like a small girl either. Oh well. It's me - the entire side of my mom's family is like that - and it's just the way it is.

I simply don't wear dresses unless I have to. Fortunately, with brides maids and wedding gowns, there is tailoring!

RE: Anyone else

I'm not sure what you mean by thicker in the chest area...I am more broad in the chest than other woman my height, but I wouldn't refer to it as 'thicker'...I prefer broader. ;)

I don't have to do much shoulder work to maintain a nice upper body look in sleeveless tops because I am naturally just broader in the shoulder's.

I have friends who wear size small in shirts who assume I do to because we are similar heights/builds...but trust me...I have never worn a size small in anything on my top half...unless I want boob hanging out all over and the shirt stretched so tight it is unattractive and life threatening.

Years ago when you couldn't buy swimsuit pieces separately, I would have to buy two swimsuits in two different sizes so I could get a larger size for the top and a smaller size for the bottoms. It s*cked.

My track coaches used to tell me that the reason I could run so well for my height was because I had the lung capacity like the tall runners. Probably was true. Most short women are 'usually' petite too, meaning they are smaller boned, smaller framed. Not I.

Oh I forgot to add...back in my bridesmaid days...I would always order the dresses to fit my top half and then have the waist taken in to fit my lower half. That works fine. One particular bridesmaid dress was form fitting like a freakin glove. I had to have alot of alteration's to that dress because I needed it to fit my top half first...can't even remember what size that dress was and then it had to be cut down so much for my bottom half. Same story with my own wedding dress.

RE: Anyone else

Lori, have you considered ordering your dress in an 8 and then altering it to fit you through the waist? It's always better to go bigger and then alter where needed. Can you tell I watch WNTW?--lol!
