Anyone done a body weight only rotation? (Mark Lauren)

Hi All,

At the beginning of 2015 I created an approx. 9 month rotation. It was basically 3 months STS (with tweaks), followed by 3 months Body Beast (with tweaks), followed by 3 months Mark Lauren (with tweaks).

I completed STS with great results, am about to complete Body Beast with great results and am preparing to start Mark Lauren's body weighted workouts. My concern is - is that enough to keep my current muscle and will I be able to build more? I am concerned I will lose my muscle strength and perhaps not build more.

I know body weighted only exercises are great for you, but is it enough? I can't really "up the weight" since I will weigh the same. Also, I just believe my form is worse on body weighted exercises and will suffer if I need to "lower the weight" (because I can't lower the weight - I weigh the same).

Does that make sense?

Any input is appreciated. (I have all of Mark Lauren's DVDs)

I've done quite a lot of bodyweight stuff including Mark Lauren. Don't underestimate how difficult it can be, like I did at first! There are always ways to progress (or regress) and exercise, without wearing a weighted vest etc. Suspension trainers, bands and a pull up bar make progression / regression simple. Pistol squats tax my quads more than any other squat...and as for hand stand push-ups......

I haven't done 3 months of only bodyweight, however, so I'm not sure what would happen over that time scale. (I'm currently combining a 40 week bw series with a heavy lifting programme, and it seems to be working).

Justine,

You had me believing at "hand stand push-ups..." Now I am scared!

Thanks for the input - as long as there are ways to progress/regress per move, I think I will be OK. I just can't picture how to do that since I weigh the same. (But, I haven't actually done any of the workouts).

Where did you get your current 40 week BW series with heavy lifting? I would like to see this rotation.

Suspension Trainers? I am not familiar with those.

Thank You.

Thanks, Karen & Justine.

Karen - That sounds like the same rotation I am about to do - did you only do Mark Lauren's BW for the duration? That is how I am doing it. Were you able to make it easier/harder when needed? I guess that is one of my concerns - how to make it easier (I can't decrease my body weight)

Justine - thanks for the rotation info and suspension trainer - another gadget I may have to get! I can't really use my doorway, will have to see if I can use my ceiling. However I have a high ceiling. I am going to have to research this for Santa. Preparing to get out my Visa.....

Edited to ask: Does anyone know if Mark Lauren has workout sheets for his videos? I can't find any and like to prepare the night before and then make notes during the workout. Thanks.

Yes, it was mainly Mark Lauren. However, once or twice a week I threw in a Horizontal Conditioning workout. You can certainly modify a move. I like Mark, he's low key, but gets the job done. He looks great, if it's all from bodyweight work, I'm in, I may start another Mark rotation in the Spring. Good luck, enjoy! I have not found any worksheets for his workouts. I had to make my own.
