Anybody strain a tendon in the knee?

I think I strained one of my knee tendons in the right knee. I dont' think it's tear, since it gets better, then I use it too much, and it starts hurting again. Can't afford to see a doctor right now, since no insurance. Anybody experience this? I've found info online saying the best way to heal is to stay off of it until the pain stops completely, three to four weeks. Also icing and ibuprofen. Just wondering if anyone else has been through this, and if you had success with healing. Also, any home physical therapy tips? Thanks.

I have found that doing lunges with heavy weight is a no-no for me, especially during a strength training program like STS. The tendons that hook to the front of my kneecaps were killing me after I finished STS. I tend to do lunges, especially forward lunges, with little to no weight now.

I have to watch my wrists too, as they get very sore if I over-use the heavy weights.

Hi Sammycat,

I have a similar problem in my right knee. It doesn't hurt everyday but when it does I have to modify all right sided moves. I haven't been to the Dr. because the pain is inconsistent and it surely wouldn't bother me on the day of the appt and there would be no findings, hence a waste of $. I do take glucosomine and I find that helps. I'm 50 and possibly have some joint arthritis in the knee. idk. But if glucosomine makes the pain go away then I'm good. But I always try to be perect with my form so I don't create another problem. Hopefully your problem is nothing serious. If you have consistent pain then it would be beneficial to see a Dr.

When I rehabbed my knee after my lateral release, I developed some tendonitis in it. I found that ice, Bio Freeze (Ben Gay or Aspercreme in a pinch), and hard massage across it really helped loosen it up again. It would kink up/stiffen on up me and hurt!!!!! By across I mean left to right, not up and down. Mine was the patellar tendon, and that is what was recommended by the PT. Every now and again it still gets irritated, and I find that helps a lot.

Laying off the heavy squats/lunges until it feels better helps, too.

That's just my experience.

Hope your knee feels better soon!
