I am curious to know who is from the southwest. Or am I the only one with a DH crazy enough to move me here?
ie. Las Cruses/Albaqurque or anywhere in the footprint?

I am not in Texas, but in the SouthWest, Arizona to be exact. But like you I am also from Germany, don't know where in Bavaria you are from, I am from Munich.

My DH is originally from MN and I am glad he was crazy enough to move me to AZ, I would have never married him had he lived in MN}( . LOVE MN but it is just WAAAAAAYYYY too cold for me, bbbbrrrrhhhh!

Take care,

Carola

Hi Carola,
nice to meet you (in ciber). Where in Arizona are you? I am from Nuernberg. My hubby is in the Army we relocated to El Paso in 2004 :-( One more year and I am out of here. El Paso is definately differnt than most places I have been. I really miss trees! I can't grow anything here everything dies! It is to hot here!!! Since 2004 we are trying to grow grass in our yard, do you think I have grass? No! It just won't grow;( To sandy and dry for me !!!
Are you going to Cathe's Road Trip?

Take care,
Belinda

Nice to meet you, too Belinda. I LOVE Nuernberg, it's very pretty there.

I am in Phoenix, in an area called Ahwatuee, I moved here in May 1996 and LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT. It is hot here as well (they say it's a dry heat though }( but I have a lot of trees, plants and herbs in my yard. I used to have grass too, but ahem, that was before I had the dogs :) Now my yard is "destruction central" but it has nothing to do with the weather :+

My DH and I used to work for the same company, I was in Germany and he came to Munich to help a customer, and the rest is history :)

So where are you going to move next year?

I really like Minneapolis, it reminds me of my Mom's hometown, Stockholm, where I spent a few years. Lots of trees and plants, houses have a lot more "character" than here in AZ, but ..... For a while we were talking about moving to Minneapolis, but it is just too darn cold, I start FREEZING at 70 degrees now and my DH doesn't really want to move back there either. Maybe a house to escape the summer heat in AZ would be nice! But then again 90 degrees in MN feels much hotter to me than 110 in AZ because of the humidity.

I am hoping to be able to go on the road trip (need to shed a few pounds before :) ) but it will depend on the date of the road trip, we are planning to go to Germany in June/July and I have to be at a convention mid August for a week in San Diego. Are you going? Maybe we can share a room.

Take care,

Carola

Well, I live in California now, but I lived in El Paso and Albuquerque - and I have to say I miss the desert. I lived off of Alabama street - right by Fort Brag (my ex-DH was a tanker). I used to love hearing the Coyotes yip. Could have lived without the scorpions, though. LOL.

Hi Carola,
I do miss Nuernberg very much x(

I go shopping to the IKEA in Tempe, Az. alot. How far are you from Tempe? I really can't find nice contemporary furniture in El Paso or mordern stuff here! I love Pheonix! I still have problems with the dry heat! The dust drives my nuts here! AZ gets really hot 115! Last year I almost passed out it was so hot! I don't like that either! I don't like sitting all summer under the AC! I do like beeing outdoors.

I noticed when I go to Phoenix that it is a lot greener for some reason:( My DH is trying to grow grass for the third time:eek:

I met my husband in Nuernberg . He was stationed in Zirndorf in 1982. He only was in Germany four day when we meet, and the rest is history. Munich is very pretty too! We went to Garmisch Partenkirchen almost every year. We were stationed in Germany almost 17 years:D :D

We are not sure where we are going to retire! I do like the beach!

Talk about lossing a few pounds I have to get my butt in gear:7
In July we are going to California for 3 weeks! I would love to share a room with you during the semminar:)

Take care,
Belinda

Hi Christine,

I wouldn't mind living in California:) I am going there in July for 3 weeks. I am so exicted! How long has it been since you lived in El Paso? I was stationed in El Paso from 1999 to 2000 a lot has changed! I live of Zaragossa street on the East side. I don't like the desert, it is to dry and dusty for me! Your husband was a tanker on Fort Bliss? My husband is on Biggs Field! It changed a lot too. New houses everywhere! I wished they had a house open 3 years ago:( You must have lived in the Mountains? Thank God I didn't see a scorpion yet:7 I would be on the next airplane to Germany}( }( LOL!

Take care,
Belinda

Hi Belinda,

I LOVE Phoenix, the heat doesn't bother me that much, last year was horrible though, I started bitching and moaning by the end of July. It was pretty cold this winter though, I even had to scratch ice of the windshield of my car a few times, yuck!! I really like the springtime here, I think it will be beautiful, we had so much rain the last couple of months. I spend a lot of time outdoors, I have 4 dogs that I have with me constantly, hiking, biking, dog park, etc. I just go out early in the morning when it gets warmer.

I live about 10 minutes South of Ikea, it's my favorite place to shop, I am there almost every week :) Maybe we can meet when you go next time!

I hate to say that, but I don't miss Germany at all and I haven't been back in 10 years. My Mom complains that I am too americanized, oh well, I guess there are worse things than being to americanized :+

I like CA too, but it is too expensive and crowed for me. But we go to CA a few times every year. There are always conventions and seminars I attend, we go skiing in Lake Tahoe and this year, for the first time, I will take my dogs to a dog camp in Lake Tahoe in June, I am pretty excited (almost as excited as about the Cathe roadtrip), just the beasts and me, hiking, canoeing, going to the beach and attending agility and herding clinic, and seminars. Time to take off from being a wife and working mom.

Well, why don't we start shedding the pounds and plan on going on the Cathe road trip. I'll check in with you and get your butt into gear, if you kick my butt}(

Take care,

Carola

Hi Carola,
Last year it got really hot (118 degree) here too. This is way to hot! You feel the humidity here more and more in the desert too.

We definately have to meet next time I am in Phoenix:) IKEA is my forvorite pace to shop, too:D I always end up spending to much money.}( }( I can't find anything here:-(

WOW! Carola you haven't been in Germany in 10 years? It is good that you are going home this year. I am all German with a little bit of American flair! You still speak German???

I was going home this year too, but my mom (70 years old!) is moving to a new place. Maybe next year;(

I have never been to CA. before. My DH and I wanted to go last year but we had to change plans. I am so exited to see CA!:7 :D

I am doing Cathe's Feb.rotation. I have 3 more day to go}( }(

Tschuess!
