Hi Guys,
This week I spent recovering from a pulled neck and shoulder muscle; it doesn't take much for this to happen due to recurrent bursitis behind my shoulder blade. Lovely, I know. Not so lovely that I could not workout this week since it affects certain turns and movements of the upper body. But hey, I will be ready hopefully on Monday to bust butt!! I did do easy yoga- which helped. I know that some of you are incorporating yoga into your rotations. I realize I need to do that too not just during an injury. I have Jane Fonda's(ok, be nice, I hear all the laughs throughout cyberspace, but her yoga tape was a great intro tape for me a few years back} and I have Ali's---awesome as we all know. And I just love Cathe's cooldown yoga stretches in CTX!
Any suggestions for Yoga tapes that really focus on the upper back and general lat area??
Thanks so much in advance for any suggestions! Have a great week!

Hi Faith,
I would be try some of Yoga Journal tapes by Living Arts--anything with Rodney Yee. I particularly enjoy his Yoga for Energy which was filmed in Hawaii and is beautifully produced. It's broken into five sections meant to correspond to the day's cycle. The earlier "morning" and "mid-morning" sessions are good all-over body stretches that ease you into the workout, while the later sections are more vigorous, including upper body work. Although it's billed as a workout for beginners, I'd say you really need some knowledge of basic yoga poses because there's virtually no instruction, you just follow along. There's instruction and tips for modifying poses at the end of the tape. Anyway, this video is one to consider, in my opinion.:)

I have to agree, about the Rodney Yee Yoga for Energy tape. I haven't done it in ages, but I love that one. The way the segments are broken down, the different rhythms and energy from section to section...very very well done.

I also think you might want to consider checking out an unsual but wonderful type of yoga called Kundalini or Chakra yoga. It's quite amazing and hard to describe, but people who like yoga tend to go nuts for it, including myself. Gurmukh has a tape just called Kundalini Yoga that I've seen at Target, etc. And Gurutej Kaur has one called Chakra Yoga that I've seen online at amazon, etc. Both are wonderful and give you a very good overall yoga tape that's inner and outer and it's all very gentle on your body, but you do manage to sweat and feel so warm and wonderful afterwards. It's a bit unusual compared to other types of yoga, but try it and you really might love it too.

Take care of that shoulder. I have a recurring shoulder blade/lat muscle thing going on that my chiro and I are working on, so I totally sympathize. My upper body training has gone right out the window for a couple of months now. I just try to focus on lower body and cardio and sneak in upper where and when I can. It's frustrating to know I'm losing a bit of the strength I worked so hard to gain, but I also know that muscle memory will come in handy when I can get back on track and that I'm not losing as much as I think I am. So you're not alone! Us gimps have to stick together! ;)
