Any suggestions?

I am a 42 year young mother of 1 and this is my first time... working out with weights.

I have always wanted to lift weights but was afraid of injury. I purchased the 3 work out set of Slow and Heavy and I have been using it for 1 week so far. The set includes legs/shoulders, chest/back and triceps & biceps. I have been working out to 1 set per day not to exceed twice a week and i'm SORE!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to a workout routine I can work out to from week to week? I'm new to Cathe and would love to purchase more of her DVD's as I find after a workout, satisfied and a sense of acomplishment. I'm sure all her workouts are amazing... but would love something that I can include with the slow and heavy workouts that will not be excessive.

I would really appreciate any suggestions anyone may have.

Hi, Fluffy, and welcome to the CatheNation, where we're all about spending your money for you!

Before offering any suggestions, I'd like you to describe what your current exercise schedule is, and what precisely you'd like to add: cardio? more muscle conditioning (strength and/or endurance?); if cardio, what formats would you like to do (step; kickbox; bootcamp; choreographed "hi/lo"?). Also, if cardio, can you handle a fair amount of impact?

Please discuss this, and I'm sure we'll all have some great suggestions for Cathe products for you to buy and try!

I would weight train 1 of the legs/shoulders, chest/back and triceps & biceps then do cardio the next day and then do another of the set, then cardio and then the last of the set. You should never train large muscles two days in a row, for example legs one day and then back the next. Give your body one day rest in between.

I started with the PS series and tried the Slow & Heavy and liked the Gym Style the best until STS came out. Now I love STS. I HATE cardio and love weight training.

So if you can afford it get the PS Series, Slow & Heavy and the ultimate - STS and you will have a great library of weight training routines.

Good Luck !

Hi AJock,

Currently I'm working out to Slow and Heavy and that's about it. I do enjoy a 3.5mph brisk walk on the treadmill and also using a stairmaster. What I would like to achieve is total body definition. I am really loving Cathe's weight lifting and would love to try kickboxing or bootcamp.

I am a determined individual who doesn't try something and say, I can't do it. With caution I complete what I begin. I have been up and down with my weight my entire life and would love to change my train of thought when it comes to way of dealing with siituations. I tend to eat when something negative happens and would like to change it from eating to working out instead.

Any suggestions to what other workouts or routines I should take to achieve that definition, I would really appreciate it.

Hi ImFiddy,

Thank you for the advise. I was obviously doing it wrong and is the reason I was asking. I have never lifted weights and was working out to one of Cathe's sessions, daily and didn't even think about Cardio in between.

I don't mind cardio so much, in fact I find it relaxing. Crazy, I know! I just put my headset on and listen to up beat music. Talk about a great sweat.

Thank you for your suggestion... I will definatley do as recommended.
