Any police officer moms here?

Hi
As some of you know, my husband and I have decided to try to have a baby :) He has kids from his previous marriage but they dont live with us.

we are both police officers. I was wondering if there are any police officer moms on this board? If there are, how did you handle having children? The job has long hours and can possibly be a dangerous one. And our future baby will have both parents in this profession.

Just wondering if there is anyone else out there in this position or who has been?

Thanks!

Not a police officer - I'm a plumbing contractor's wife.
That would be a lot to think about for sure. Is there any type of work you can do with your skills that you could transfer out of the higher-risk positions for a while?

hi kate
i'm not sure about different positions. i think they have light duty available for expectant mothers - they'd have to, because u cant be performing police duties while you are about to have a baby. You wouldnt be able to fit the uniform and belt on haha :) I guess they'd stick me behind a desk or something

I love my job for the most part, and i know every day is a risk. And my husband works in a high crime area in a different district. So both mom and dad would be police officers.

I was just wondering if there are any other women on here in the same profession and how they handled it.

But I havent gotten any replies so i'm assuming no

Thanks for your response :)

Jenmgo, I am not a police officer but I work in criminal justice (probation officer). My life is not in danger every day like yours is, but I certainly know that there are people are there who really dislike me! (sorry, that's as close as I could come!)

When I got pregnant with my son, now 3, I was working in a job that I loved. However, it had crazy hours and required a lot of travel. After Collin (my son), I just wasn't willing to do that stuff anymore. Being a mom changed the way I felt about my job.

I don't make very much money and all of that, but you CANNOT beat the 8 - 4:30 schedule and perks like leaving in the middle of the day to go to the party at preschool or whatever.

I guess my point is that your baby (good luck with that, by the way!!) is going to thrive on having happy parents! If your job makes you happy, then do it!! I do suspect, however, that you may have some second thoughts about your profession once that little baby comes. Just think about it...
