Any of you do yoga?

Sounds like you guys do a pretty good job with cardio and weight training, but I don't hear too much about yoga. That is one of the best exercises you can do during pregnancy. It helps you relax, keeps you flexible, and helps prepare you for labor.

I do Firms, and gym workouts 4 days a week. I also try to do at least 1-2 days of yoga per week.

My favorite yoga tape is Rocki's Yoga for Pregnancy. It incorporates some kegels and pilates-type leg lifts too. It really helps with flexibility and breathing, and makes your body feel less awkward and sore. I got mine at Amazon.

Another pregnancy tape I like is Fit Mama with Lisa Hart (from Collage). It has some salsa cardio and a yoga section. It's good for something different, but the cardio is better for maybe towards the end of pregnancy. The yoga section would be good to do anytime.

Give yoga a try!!

You know...I was just thinking about this Carole, I'd love a yoga tape but didn't know where to start. Can you decribe what they are like, by this I mean....are they really a workout or more flexibility, what does the tape consist of. I appreciate your reviews, but wondered about more detail. Thanks for bringing this up!!

I was just researching preg. yoga tapes yesterday too!!I saw Fit Mama w/Lisa Hart- I was wondering about that one.It has very good reviews,do you feel like you get a good workout??I was wondering if I would be better off just modifying my Cathe tapes....????Let me know! Thanks!!:)

You guys, don't worry, yoga will give you a good workout. In a different way than Cathe. Cathe is great for cardio and muscle definition. Yoga is great for toning, in the same way pilates is. It stretches you out and helps give lean muscle tone. You will feel it. It will make your body and baby happy.

The Lisa Hart video is fun. The cardio is all done on the floor, not step. It's all low-impact. It's salsa-style, so it moves your hips a little and loosens you up. I've only previewed that part, since I'm still doing more vigourous workouts now. I think it will be great as I get bigger. The yoga part of the Lisa Hart video is great. It's more of a flowing yoga, moving from one pose to the next. It gives you a little cardio, but mostly toning and some stretching. Helps with posture and breathing too. Lisa has a nice style, and it's nice to see someone with a big belly doing the moves.

The Rocki Pregnancy Yoga tape is so good. You start out stretching and doing breathing exercises on the floor. You also do some squats and leg lifts- pilates style on your side. You do a couple classic yoga poses like downward dog. Next, she moves you to standing poses. Some are balancing and some are spinal twists. Some are similar to flowing squats, and they get tough. She ends with a short stretch and relaxation.

I have the Living Arts Pregnancy Yoga too, but I think you guys would be bored to death with it. It's very slowly paced.

I hope this gives you guys enough detail. Let me know if I can answer more questions.

Carole,Thanks for the info!!Have you ever heard of Yoga Journals Prenatal Yoga by Shiva Rea?? I saw it on babycenter.com and it has all very good reviews on it.That was the one I was looking at.:)

Smiley,

Yes, I have that one. It's the one I said would bore you guys to death.... I personally like it, but it is slow-paced. It's a great tape, but it's mostly gentle stretching and more pure yoga. The poses are held for longer, and you will get no cardio out of it.

Bummer-I actually ordered it....x( Is it good for anything then??(besides stretching?)Could you call it a workout for the day?Have you ever done Denise Austins pilates? That is the only type of yoga or pilates I have done-and she about drives you crazy!;-)

The Rockis yoga you said you have -is that a better workout?I found it on amazon...:)

Smiley2,

They are both good tapes, don't get me wrong. It's just what you are looking for. From what you have said, I thought you were looking for a more vigorous yoga workout. That's usually what I prefer. You will definately benefit from the Shiva Rea workout, that's a lot of people's favorite. It just may not hold your attention if you have a short attention span like me, or if you like hard workouts.

It will be perfect for the 3rd trimester. They have modifications for all three trimesters, and you could just do the 1st or 2nd trimester modifications through to the end of the pregnancy, and that will make it tougher. The girl in the third trimester hardly does anything on the tape. But, of course, listen to your body.

The Rocki tape is just a different style of yoga, especially for pregnancy. It focuses on moves designed to make you feel better during pregnancy and make labor easier. The Shiva tape is more just basic yoga, that you would do in a regular yoga class, non-pregnancy. The Rocki tape concentrates more on kegels, moving the pelvis, opening the hips, and movement. I just prefer it.

Why don't you just see how you like the Shiva tape before you order another one. You may really like it. I tend to use yoga as a workout day. I'll do 2 days cardio, 2 days weights, and 1-2 days of yoga per week. That's how I like to set it up during pregnancy. I really think the yoga is important. It will give your body a good workout, but not make you tired or feel like you've worked yourself to death.

I'm just jabbering now.....
