As you know my elderly grandmother took very ill. She fell broke her hip and has bladder cancer. She has demensia ( sp) worse then ever since the surgery for her hip two weeks ago. My question is that today just like the rest of the week she has slurred speech and tells us they put matches on her tongue when we leave. We know this isn't true but I think she is trying to tell us her tongue hurts. She hasn't eaten anything other than a bite here and there. So today we tried to get her to eat some cake and she said don't touch her tongue it's on fire. We said it was not and told her to stick out her tongue. It looked tiny and small. The last time I saw a tongue look this way was when my aunt was near death. I asked the nurse there and she said they would call her doctor and this didn't look right. I'm asking if this is a sign of impending death like my aunt or somthing else that is common in this age with this type of declining health. I would apprecaite any feedback from anyone. My mom is very concerned as am I but she really never asks questions. Hope someone could help. I'm not sure when we will speak to her doctor so we could get some feedback. She isn't in the hospital anymore she is in the other place where they do her therapy.
