Any ex-junk food addicts?

Just wondering if there are any former junk food lovers out there. I'm 27 and eat so much unhealthy food. I'm finally starting to gain weight since I'm not really exercising. I just feel gross- I'm constantly bloated and/or constipated- which in turn, doesn't really make me feel like working out.

How did you change your eating habits? Did you feel any better? How soon?

I'm just so used to ordering a burger and fries ot pizza or whatever (I don't really cook much). It's gotten to the point where I don't even enjoy the food since I feel (and look) like I'm 6 mos pregnant afterwards! I'm not overly concerned about the weight, I just hate feeling bloated. Is there any hope for me?

Thanks!!

Oh boy have I been there. Starting to cook more at home and control what when into my food was my first step. I have followed Weight Watchers for a little over two years now so I have gotten into the habit of eating healthy most of the time. I do have those times when I overeat, I believe we all do and I feel awful. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on here that will give you some good tips also.

When I first came to this site, I was interested in what people were reading about fitness, nutrition, etc. Someone recommended the book Sports Nutrition Guidebook by Nancy Clark. I really like this book.

Have you tried some so-called healthy alternatives to your junk food? How about a Lean Cuisine pizza? It's not as good as the real thing, but it has the psychological effect of "Hey, I'm eating pizza."

There's veggie burgers, too. They have less fat and when you pile on the healthy toppings, they're pretty good. Or cut up some potatoes, sprinkle on the seasoning and bake them for a healthier french fry. Maybe if you replace some of those old favorites with healthier versions, you will find yourself on the road to eating better over all.

where can i start? i am still and addict of junk food and i always will, i am just in recovery but once in a while those days come, so far its been months and i tell you there are moments i want to just over eat till i drop, but here is the thing, i made a list about what do i miss from over eating and what do i hate, and if you do that, you will find yourself to not overeat,

list of WHAT I MISS FROM OVEREATING;

To eat whenever what ever junk food i want.

WHAT I DONT MISS FROM OVEREATING: feeling bloated, gaining weight, tight clothes, swollen face, fast heartbeats, feelings of guilt, failure, dissapointment, depression, anger, headaches, thirst, retaining water, not able to be in control, wishing to be in track, DO YOU WANT ME TO GO ON, I WOULD BUT I BELIEVE, you got the picture;-)

As a teen and young adult (till about 20), I was a junk fooder. Pop, chips, cookies, sugar on EVERYTHING (celery, tomatoes, oranges, etc.). I oculdn't STAND dark breads and loved the white stuff. Burgers, fries (McDonalds just came out when I was a junior or senior in high school, and I took advantage of it!).

When I went off to college, I got into vegetarianism, and with it, and the new coop I discovered, healthy foods.

Now, most of what I eat is 180degrees from what I ate back then (though my family always had good fresh garden veggies all the time).

I used to drink 64 oz. of Dr. Pepper every day and smoke on top of that. I'm a stay at home mom, so whenever I got bored I would hit the snack cupboard. In the same day I quit smoking cold turkey AND gave up the soda. I was not someone you wanted to be around for 3-4 days.My daughter is 9 and she kept telling me "It's okay mommy, just think, you'll lose weight". Just hearing her words of advice kept me away from the snacks,soda and smokes. I smoked outside, and the only time I have the urge for one is when I pass the chair I used to smoke in.LOL
