That's correct!
Chiming in here because I'm one of the RT Coordinators and happen to know the answer to this (and because I also know that Cathe is out of pocket all day today and won't see this post right away).
Thanks for posting that, 6Swans4me! You're absolutely correct. Cathe talked about this exact issue in her post from a few weeks back where she asked for Forums input on choosing a date for this summer's Road Trip (which I can't seem to find, or I'd quote it for you all (drat!
).
I know from recent discussions with her that Cathe has looked hard at having a Cathe Road Trip at some other time of year besides summer. But she and Chris have concluded that for right now July and August are going to need to be our window for having Road Trips at their gym. Those two months are by FAR the slowest time of year for the gym, and they really need to schedule Road Trips for that time so as to minimize the disruption that we cause to their membership.
And make no mistake about it, we ARE disruptive, no matter how pleasant and well-behaved we are. We are a big, excited group, and when we invade the gym for the weekend we make it impossible for Cathe, Chris and their instructor staff to offer any of the usual weekend classes in their largest fitness studio, we cause noise and generally disrupt the quiet atmosphere of the gym that the members value, we and all of our gear seem to be everywhere, and we completely monopolize the showers, lockers, sinks and other facilities in the women's locker room. If you were a regular at Cathe's gym, you'd cringe when you saw us coming. ;-)
Another thing -- After the 2005 Road Trip we surveyed the participants about various issues, one of which was future Road Trip dates, and most of them preferred summertime. This didn't surprise me personally, because in the past when there has been Forum discussion about Road Trip dates it's certainly been my impression that
most folks on the Forums agree with the 2005 RT attendees and
prefer a summer Road Trip. It's generally a more flexible time of year. Especially if they have enough advance notice of an event, most people seem to find it easier to schedule time off from work in the summer, and find family commitments a little simpler to juggle because the kids are on break from school and activities (dance class, sports, birthday parties, etc.) -- all the things that working or at-home parents spend seven days a week chauffeuring from September thru May or June.
For this year's RT we were fortunate enough to be able to provide almost five month's advance notice of the dates. Since the Road Trip sold out in three minutes and a long waiting list piled up within minutes after that, I think it's safe to say that with generous advance notice these summertime dates were workable for a great many Cathe fans. It's never going to be possible for Cathe to accommodate everyone's needs when she schedules a Road Trip, but I hope this explanation helps take the sting out of the disappointment for folks for whom the summertime dates are a problem.
