Another Firm ?

Okay, the post below about the newest Firm series has me thinking. Have any of you tried them? What are you opinions on these workouts? How do they compare to the other Firm series? Also, could they be done in an apartment without too much noise? Thanks!

Thea

Hi Thea,

This is only my opinion, but I had the whole set including the jiggle-free ones, and I was disappointed. They seemed to have gotten easier. I thought they were much easier than BSS1 and 2, and even 3. The cardio is much less intense and seemed recycled, and I personally felt the weight work moved too quickly.
There were quite a few threads about these, (Transfirmer Series) so you may want to do a search to get more opinions. I must add that I only did each workout once before loaning them away.

I have them all from Susan Harris Vol 1.
I think the originals were the toughest. In comparison 1-vol 6 were harder than bss3 and the transfirmer.I bought them for variety.

I personally have gotten way more results in the last 9 months from doing Cathe.
Jiggle free abs is a breeze to me verses core max.Gym style legs blows away juggle free buns, but it depends on your goals and level of fitness.

I really like the Transfirmer. The workouts that come with it are fun and really hit the glute area. Lunges on the incline, incline stepping, leg preses and step-ups onto the 14" portion are all included, and effective for that are in particular (I used the workouts at the beginning of my 'rebuild the butt' rotation...which I need to get back to!

I don't think they would be too noisy. There are some plyo moves in the floor cardio, but they are optional.

The Transfirmer is also a nice piece of equipment: the Firm finally got it right! You could also use it for other workouts and take lunges to the incline (seems gentler on the knees, but tougher on the butt, a winning combo, if you ask me!)

Kathryn,
Could you use the Transfirmer to do Cathe videos? I just got the Transfirmer last fiday, and I want to work my way up to Cathe. But I don't want to have to buy another step.

I definitely WOULDN'T recommend it for regular step, in particular power step, because the plastic is very hard, and it doesn't have the give that other steps do, so would be harder on the joints.

Bleh! Yuck! I like the old Firms which are excellent. Even BSS1 and BSS2 are pretty good but as one reviewer posted on Collage Video the newer titles are "easy, cheesy, and poorly cued" and I agree! I find that I really, reaaly like the new Tracie Long Training series when I need a break from Cathe.

The Firm used to be good for me. I have the originals from Susan Harris on up. They were tough and did not hold back. When the Firm was later sold the workouts were easier. The instructors did not have the pizazz that Susan and the originals had and I found them boring. The step went from a wooden step (you needed two) to a cheap plastic one that later warped. I wouldn't waste a dime on what they have now.

For the poster that wrote about using the transformer as a step in Cathes workouts - dont. Her workouts are fast paced and you don't want some cheap plastic thing that wont hold. Go and buy the step either online or go to Target/Walmart and spend 50.00 and you will get a workout tape as well with it.

I am not a firm believer.

Thanks for the information! I think I will save my money for now. Maybe I will look into getting some of the older Firm workouts though. Thanks again!:)

All this talk about the older Firm workouts has peaked my curiousity about the Firm again. I sold a lot of my Firm collection, but still have about 10-15 Firms, mostly older ones. I only have Vol. 1 from the classics. What other Classics or older workouts would you recommend buying. I looked on Amazon.com and they are so cheap now. They used to sell for $20 or $30 and up, and now you can get it for $5. From Vol. 2-6, what would you recommend?

Firm Strength with Pam Cauther was probibly one of their better selling ones. A good workout. I like the instructor. (She is still with the Firm as Pam Meriweather). Also Firm cardio which was its partner.

I like the one with Jayne Poteet from 1992. Starts a little slow but it utilizes that shorter box. Fool around with the weights - I used ten pounds on the low box workout.

Firm Parts standing legs / Firm Parts lower body and upper body.
The standing legs one requires a tall box and is mostly a tall box step up workout. Its is short but will wear you out.

The first Firm with Susan Harris is good - no step though.
The second one with Janet Jones is good - but I didn't like the aerobic session..no step.

Most of them run about an hour.

But if you want to get just one - get Firm Strength.
