Another Ebay Seller Question?

Cathlete
I have been seeing DVD's for auction on Ebay by someone with 100% positive feedback, but the prices of the Cathe dvd's seem too good to be true. Have any of your ordered from: shuttlestuff_1414. I am actually taking my chances and getting two of the Zumba workouts from her, but the prices of Cathe's just do not seem believable to me, despite the positive feedback. So, I figured I'd see if anyone here has ordered from him/her. Thanks.

Tough call. The seller does have 100% feedback, but I would consider the amount of feedback low. Some people do not know what to look for in a bootleg so they don't know they're getting one.

Couple of things:

1. Just because the opening bid is set at $12.99 it doesn't mean that is what anyone will end up paying. I sell a good bit on eBay and I pretty much always start off at .99 because it is a cheaper listing fee and eBay *says* it encourages more people to bid. I just sold my Tony Horton 10 minute Trainer for $65 and it started with a .99 bid. So these $12.99 items could end up selling for much much more and not for a *too good to be true* price. Long way of saying I wouldn't let a low opening bid discourage anyone.

2. I would be interested/concerned about the fact that a good amount seem to be *new.* I would email the seller and ask where they originally purchased these *new* DVDs and why they are selling. This isn't an outrageous question and if someone asked me(although I very rarely sell anything *new*) I would be happy to provide an explanation. It just seems a little well, odd, to me that someone wants to sell so many *new* Cathe DVDs. Now, I realize that there are perfectly legitimate sellers of *new* Cathe DVDs on eBay but, as Cynthia said, the feedback is low(in quantity) and this seller hasn't been registered on eBay for very long, so it may be worth the time to ask some questions if you are interested in bidding.

HTH! :)

Most of that seller's Cathe stuff sells for $10-$17 and he/she tends to have all the ones that tend to be bootlegged (per VF's warning post on the exchange). I came really close to buying from that seller but decided not to because I do suspect they're fakes and the buyers either don't know or don't care, or perhaps their complaints were handled and settled via email which we don't get to see. If you decide to buy from him/her, please let us know how it goes.
Thanks!

Thank you all for your replies. I have been buying on Ebay and I also realized that although this person's feedback is all positive, they are fairly new yet. I emailed a question on the Zumba video a while back when I first wanted to order it, and never got a reply. I know, that's a red-flag right there. I did end up bidding on a zumba yesterday, because I figure at $9.99, I'll take my chances and see, but I am pretty sure I will know if it's a bootleg copy when I get it. I happen to have most Cathe workouts already, so I haven't been tempted by those, but I just thought it would be nice if someone here had something positive to say about this seller.

I will be sure to let you all know what I think once I get the zumba workout. Thanks for your replies.

I ordered from this person and I got a bootleg copy of Hardcore Extreme. I notified ebay and they cancelled the transaction before I could leave feedback. I would not bid on any of his Cathe DVD's.

Personally I would feel comfortable, they have a 100% feedback, I would take my chances, if you buy and you a paypal cc there won't be much risk. I have 100% feedback and my numbers are low also.

After Becca's post saying she received a bootleg, my suspicion is confirmed and I would not feel comfortable buying from this seller.

If I buy anything from e-bay I always go in with the impression that what I'm buying is a fake. Sometimes I don't mind so much but with DVD's I do care because the quality would bug me.

Update

I thought I would give you guys an update on my Ebay purchase from the seller I had inquired about here. I went ahead and paid via paypal, but also sent him an email. I let him know I was a bit concerned with buying a bootleg DVD, and without mentioning names, let him know one particular person I know bought a Cathe DVD that turned out to be a bootleg. I told him, I was pretty confident I would recognize a bootleg DVD, so if in fact the Zumba dvd I ordered was bootleg, he should just refund my money, as I would only be sending it back. This was on Sunday, and today, Tuesday, I received an email back from the seller, telling me, he doesn't know who I got my info. from, he has been assured by his supplier that these are originals, but he has gone ahead and REFUND my money. Well, I don't like making assumptions, but my feeling is that if he knew they weren't bootleg, he would not have felt the need to refund my money. Amazing, that he shows 100% positive feedback, and people either don't care that they are buying bootleg dvd's or reallly don't know how to recognize a fake. I guess if I want a Zumba dvd, I'll have to keep looking. Thank you all for your feedback, and I hope this helps someone else :)

I bought a lot of my Cathe DVDs on Ebay and yesterday I was reading on the Video Fitness website how to spot a Cathe bootleg. In the very center of the disc there will be written in a fancy font ifpi W400. I checked all mine and sadly I have about 10 with this inscription. They were all from Ebay but different sellers so you never can tell but a low price is a good indicator it's a bootleg. They also said some genuine Cathe DVDs would have this inscription too but only the ones that come with equipment like Basic Step comes with a step and High Step Circuit comes with the high step. Yes I was bummed to find this out but I was trying to save money too. Just be careful is all I can say!!! Teresa

that does sound really suspicious. If he wasn't selling bootlegs he would have said so and continued on in the sale. He doesn't want to get caught or waste his time with someone who will return it it seems to me.

I bought a Cathe bootleg off ebay. I knew immediately because of the picture quality. I had real Cathe's to compare to.
Luckily, all my Cathe's except for the one bad one, came from SNM.

Iris,

As soon as I emailed him with my concerns about my copy being a bootleg, he emailed me all indignant and played the "my supplier says the are authentic" card. BUT immediately offered to refund my money. He seems to be doing anything and everything to avoid negative feedback. I just wish I could have posted feedback before ebay cancelled the transaction. :(

I'm glad you got your money back and that there is one more ebayer who will not be buying his bootlegs.

Iris, thank you for the update. Once again, I'm glad I was outbid.

Teresa, I'm sorry to hear you got stuck with all those fakes. I say stuck because if you want to part with them, you can't do that knowing they're not authentic.
