an ode to O/T drama....

Cathlete
Hello all. Just wanted to say that I actually like the drama we have here. I like the fact that we are not afraid to say what we feel. And above all, I LIKE the fact that we can offend eachother and move on. To me, this is what life is like anyway. That's not to say I enjoy nastiness or meaness. I just enjoy honesty, especially if it is civil. I enjoy not sugar coating everything. So for all of you out there not afraid of a good online tussle, I say Three Cheers to you!! Let's continue to be real to eachother!

Carolyn

I agree, Carolyn. Lots of boards can get very nasty and hurtful when people don't agree. I think that it's nice that the overall tone here is one of understanding and 'it's okay to disagree.":)

You're all wrong and I can't believe you said that and I'm never posting here again!!!!

Shelley, you crack me up!

Just to be an agent provocateur: there is no such thing as OT in this forum! (read the description and you'll see what I mean).

I second that. I know I'm a very direct person (OK maybe a little TOO direct) & sometimes my posts don't come across the way they were intended.

But I do enjoy our lively discussions & would hate for that to change b/c of a few bad apples.

Although I don't post much, I lurk often during the day, especially on my lunch break. The dramatic threads are like a soap opera to me!! Very entertaining and it seems like I can almost predict some responses before they happen. Hey, if we were all the same and had the same opinion, this place would be very boring!! Cheers to the diversity!!:p :7

What a refreshing outlook! I feel exactly the same. I am a very direct person and appreciate when someone is direct with me. I would much rather associate with people that tell it like it is than hear sugar coating and white lies. I want to know what you're thinking and why. And, if you think my comments are harsh, ask me why I feel the way I do as I am not just making my comments or observations because I'm mean and nasty. I usually have a basis for my feelings and comments.

Thanks for posting this :)

P.S. I think this gets back to being taught growing up that girls are supposed to be agreeable and sugar and spice and everything nice. It's okay to be assertive without being aggresive, IMHO.

Well, judging by the threads which get forcibly removed from existence, apparently there is such a thing as O/T!!!

But, in general, I agree with Carolyn. People who cannot tolerate different opinions on these boards forget that no democracy can function and survive without dissent.

Clare ;-)

Candi:

I agree with this. I am raising my girls to speak loud and be heard. It all starts here! I was raised to speak my mind and I do. Or maybe it just comes naturally?!?!?!!? From one forthright speaker to another,
here's to us all!

Clare :D :D :D :D

They aren't removed because they are OT, they are removed for inappropriate language or behavior.

I've held off posting here but in this particular moment I have to mention that it drives me insane when tantrums are thrown on the board. I love love love good debate, and Catheites surely know how to provide it. However, there are also a handful of people who feel free to deliver their opinions like they have a red phone to God but then get all in a snit when others respond with equally strong opinions. They stomp around their threads playing "poor me" and calling others out for not respecting different opinions. What's up with that?

Just had to get that off my chest. :D

I'm not sure I understand "stomping around their threads playing poor me" but I guess the answer is that we all have different ways of expressing our feelings :)

Sparrow...you are one of the best debaters on this site :)

Sparrow -

You are so right on! I could have not worded it better myself (which why you "worded" it and not me!). You are one of the few people whose posts I rush to read because of your wisdom and because you are such a "word-smith." Small wonder that you are a writer, eh? That's why you write and I quietly bake cakes!

Why thank you ladies...I'm blushing. :D

I can't bake a cake to save my life though....:D

Candi, I don't want to post the specific instances because I don't want to attack anyone personally but what I mean is more than a way of expressing oneself. It's more of a tantrum response some people seem to have when anyone else has the NERVE to not agree with them. There's usually no debate points involved but a whole lot of snotty remarks about others not being able to handle the "truth."

Sparrow, I haven't noticed threads like this, although admitttedly I don't read all of the theads. So by all means, attack someone personally so I can figure out what you mean exactly. Unless it's me of course and then please kindly refrain from attacking me as I know I am a true angel in EVERY sense of the word. :)

BTW, I'm totally kidding about attaking someone.
