AmyG, you're a genius!!!-Slim&Lean

Several weeks ago I posted asking if anyone could recommend a workout that I could do for 20 minutes per day after I get home from work. I've been working long hours all this year and have fallen completely out of shape. I just want to start to tone up again, and I get discouraged knowing that I face a long workout when I come home from work tired and hungry.

AmyG sent me an email suggesting that I try Jari Love's Slim and Lean. She gave me a link to it on Deep Discount DVD and it was like $8.00, and I trust Amy's opinion, so I got it. Well, I just tried it and it is perfect for me!!!

The whole workout is one hour long and is broken down into 11 (not including the warm-up) 5-minute segments. I was rather skeptical about spending only 5 minutes per body part, but I was wrong! The workout is plenty tough, and yet welcoming to people at all levels of fitness. One of the back-up exercisers does less advanced movements so you can progress at your own pace. Now all I have to do is talk myself into doing about TEN MINUTES when I get home from work, 5 days per week, and I can tone up! If I'm willing to spend 15 minutes, I can thoroughly work out 3 body parts. This is SO what I needed!! :D :D :D

And even though I only spent $8, Slim & Lean is a high-quality workout with a nice set, great music, and a friendly instructor who has been a personal trainer for a long time, and who really motivated me. I actually did my first push-ups EVER! For some reason, I had never been able to do them before.

AmyG, you're a genius. Thank you so much!! :7 :7 :7 :7 :7

OMG Nancy!! ;) All I did was tell you a workout that seemed to me would be exactly what you asked for! :)

I'm *so* glad you liked it!!! I agree with everything you said about the workout. (Although the "genius" comment is cracking me up!)

WAY TO GO on the pushups!!!!!!!!! That is HUGE!!!!! YAY NANCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :7 :7 :7 :7 :7

ETA: The entire credit should really go to Wendy, because Wendy was talking about Jari Love and her workouts and Wendy liked them! I trusted her recommendation (and I love the fact that Wendy tends to preview every new exercise attraction ;)) and went from there. Wahoo for Wendy!!!!

Amy, the genius was in pairing the workout to my criteria. There are hundreds of workouts out there, and lots of them are good, and I could have spent a few months going through them, but YOU were the one who figured out which workout would suit ALL of my criteria and told me about it. To me, there is a certain genius in that, so I stand by my statement. :p :+

Exactly Amy!

On another thread you asked about details about the push-ups:
In the past, I have never been able to complete a single push-up, even on my knees. I noticed today that Jari Love was not going all the way down to the floor, but was coming back up before she got too low. I followed her form, and was able to do several push-ups!!

What do you think? Exactly how low is a push-up supposed to go??

Thanks!
Nancy

Ahh, the age old question!! :) I tell my bootcampers to come down so that their upper arm (shoulder to elbow) is parallel with the ground on a pushup. I noticed Jari doesn't go as low, either! But if you think of a chest press as the opposite of a pushup, you'll be fine. Cathe always says to keep your elbows above the edge of the step and not drop below the step height- same thing as keeping your upper arm parallel with the ground.

I'm SO excited you enjoyed the workout!!! :D :D :D I'm in the middle of it right now and it is *not* easy... so you certainly haven't lost as much strength as you were afraid you have!

Again, way to go!
