Amy Bento's Workouts

I noticed that Collage is selling two new Amy Bento workouts. One looks like a bootcamp type workout and the other is step. Anyone tried these? Thanks.:)

I broke down and ordered the Advanced Step Challenge from Amy. I love step DVDs and am a choreography junkie so I just had to have it :D . I think that it is alot of fun, but it does take some work. I had read on other message boards that it was a good idea to not only preview, but do a walk through on a 4" step before you attempt this for your "real" workout. So, I did that and it made it alot easier to follow.

I can't really compare this DVD to any other that I have done. Some of the more complex moves should have been broken down just a bit more. But I guess that I am just spoiled with Cathe and Christi who are such amazing cuers. That is why, IMO, that doing the walk through helped a ton.

That said, this DVD is fun once you get it. So, if you have a little patience and pick up choreography pretty easily I think it is a worthwhile investment. Also, Collage has a 30 day period that you can send it back to them if you don't like it.

I am sure that you will get a variety of opinions! Good luck deciding!

I enjoy Amy's Advanced Step Challenge. I do agree with Karin that you really should walk through the video on an 4" step - especially until you get the crazy shuffle down. It's a blast once you get it, though. It's not an easy step workout, but if you got Rhythmic Step or Step Blast fairly quickly, you'll be okay. It is FAST! I noticed the whooping more during the preview than I do when I working out to it, mainly because I'm concentrating more on not falling on my face. Amy is extremely high energy. I keep glancing at the TV to make sure she hasn't gone into orbit or something. But she gets the heart rate up.

I haven't tried BootCamp yet as I'm doing a P90X rotation, but I've heard that that one is really good, but she rests too long, so if you just fast forward during the rests you'll keep your HR up where it's supposed to be. The intervals on BootCamp and 2 minutes long each, and there is a lot of equipment required. (Dumbbells, barbell, step, stability ball, plates or rags for some functional fitness moves...).

I have both of these & I like them both but neither is without issues, IMHO. Of the two I like the boot camp one better because of the 2 minute cardio segments, but I agree the rests are a bit long in between. The cueing in ASC is not the best, but the moves are pretty fresh. I'm fine on an 8" step because I do a fast foot repeater rather than the crazy shuffle which for me at least would no doubt result in something on my body being smashed, broken or mangled!!

Then there's the whooping. It's more than I would like to hear, but not a deal breaker.

I like the tubing, wished she used it more in Bootcamp (she uses it more in one of her other workouts that isn't yet available at Collage)

A kind yaya let me borrow All Pump and BC. I found AP way too easy and just didn't feel worked out. I wanted to like it and there were some different moves that I enjoyed, but it just didn't challenge me. In BC there were some moves that I enjoyed and I liked the 2 minute cardio intervals but probably not enough to spend the big bucks since there are no premixes. In both workouts I felt like body parts were neglected (chest and back). I'm tempted by the step workout but almost $27.00 for a 40 min. workout with no premixes is a little steep in my opnion. I will be watching for Amy's future offerings as she really seems to be listening to her customers and what they want and I like her teaching style. She already has premixes on her two latest releases due to customer requests. I may break down and order the step one as I want some new cardio and the clip looks great, but the price for the length of the workout is holding me back...we shall see...
