Am I mean & selfish....

if I convert the loft in my cabin from the kids' art space into MY yoga studio?

I have a full, finished walk-out basement which is kids' playroom, family/tv room, exercise room and that's fine for weights & cardio w/o for me. But I want some calm uncluttered space for myself. As a semi-hyper SAHM who is homeschooling 3, I'm trying to slow down and find a calm center in life. (The fidget post made me think, so thanks for starting it)

It simply means the kids go back to having art time at the kitchen table & art supplies being housed elsewhere.

I already know the answer you guys will give ;-) but we all seek affirmation and permission sometimes - don't we?:)

Thanks for listening. Any suggestions for yoga/pilates studio set up would be welcomed.;-)

I say toss those children out...bring the yoga matts in!!}(

Actually, I have the same fantasy about our basement which is currently the kids toyroom. Our treadmill is down there too but I can just visualize a home gym and all of my handweights/barbell stuff down there too.

These children just seem to cause such havoc in our lives.;-)

Hey, my DH and I are going house hunting this weekend, but we think we already found one we like that is a 5 bedroom. You'd better believe that the first thing that came into my mind was MY OWN WORKOUT ROOM!!! I didn't even think of a play room or anything for DD. Oops! I guess I'm a little selfish too!;-)

Melody, are you kidding? Who needs an art room??? Are your kids professional artists or something? Yoga studio, YES!! And I'm coming to live with you too. }(

WOW! I love afirmation and permission....keep it coming, please.

Actually, Nancy, my 25 yo is an artist (and a great one), but he no longer lives at home and 1 younger DS shows a lot of artistic potential. BWTH. . .oldest never had a studio. }(

I vote yes on the yoga studio. You really need your own little space in the house. In our house, my husband's space is the office (although I use it too, he got to pick the decorations and is in it more than me) and my space is my workout room. When we have our first child, my workout room will become a nursery, so we might have to get a new house!

Your deserve your own space:) In my home, DH has his own music studio and I have my own rarely used (shh...) sewing room (we both share the workout room and study). I personally think the adults who own the home deserve their own space for whatever special hobby they have....they worked really hard for it so you shouldn't feel guilty:)

Robin:)

You are NOT being selfish! Especially, homeschooling the kids,(and even if you didn't) you need a place where you can relax, meditate, and have some downtime. Ultimately, that helps in you being a better mother, and teacher!:) :)

Melody, I say creative people don't NEED a studio to create. The world is their studio! Throw 'em out!!!

Michele:)

Ok, I just had to chime in here. Melody, I took a quick look at your picture of your cabin, and holy cow! That is a very beautiful cabin. I bet you're very proud of it.
I agree with everyone else as far as the art studio/ yoga space goes.

Go for it!

Of course the entire living area downstairs is *almost* completely converted from the kids area to my workout area. I hope to be able to complete the eviction this weekend when my new Nautilus Olympic folding weight bench is assembled. Now, if I could just get my husband to rip out the kitchen that is down there......

They'rrrrrre out!!!!

I already have my plan in motion and I'll keep ya posted.

BTW, when I told the DSs what I planned, get this, their response was "oh, cool mom! Do you want us to help clean out all the stuff?" Aaaaaaaaahhhhhh...gotta love'em.

And who cares what DH thinks, right?

I'll post some photos when the eviction is complete.:)

Melody, those boys of yours are just the bees knees. You should win some kind of award for Mother of the Millenium or something.

Please do share the post-eviction pics!
-Nancy

LOL at Nancy. I wonder if "Mother of the Millenium" and "post-eviction" (of boys) should appear in the same post?:) Sound like a really sweet mom don't I?
