Alternative to barbell Hip thrust

Hmmm - I've not tried that. I have SelectTech weights which are even bulkier than what she's demoing so not sure if it would work (might be really clunky and unstable). But makes me wonder if I could potentially try one of the fabric bands (the heaviest one) with it. I usually just use one dumbbell on my hips like how Jen demonstrates in the STS 2 workouts.

I am thinking of the fabric band. The Cathe one since I don't really use them enough. I will try and share my thoughts.

Yes SelectTech are bulky but there is a way to wrap and place the band right on handle of the dumbell. I tried on two of my bulkiest set and there is a way to wrap the dumbbells, to correctly and safely place de dumbbells on the hips and HOLD onto dumbbells throughout the movement. The key in my opinion is to ensure to extend arms if necessaire to ensure the dumbells stays stable and sturdy while executing the move. The dumbbells should NOT be place over the hip girdle. The beauty of this is, I did not feel the need to place extra cushion on my hip girdle.

That being said, I tried it with about 15 pound and a medium fabric band and it burns. Then I thought if I want even more intense, I can just add the second band wrapping the upper part of the legs. Well that would be gruelling. I felt it from the first set from the eigth reps up to sixteenth. I think I need to make better use of those fabric bands.

I have an inexpensive belt that I purchased on Amazon so I can do the heavier hip thrusts (my barbell is an Olympic curl bar so the bar is not straight making it impossible to use for thrusts). I found it worked very well with hanging a heavy dumbbell in each side loop.

I'll have to experiment with this - I just tried it really quick with two 17.5 # SelectTech weights and the blue fabric loop - the weights kind of tilted inwards and it was a bit uncomfortable on the exterior of my hips. Maybe the blue loop didn't have enough give to it to allow the weights to dangle more to the side. If I try it again I'll see what it's like with the lightest (orange) fabric loop.

As it is, I can comfortably set a 45# weight on my lap for these, but of course, I ultimately cannot go any heavier with a single SelectTech weight than 52.5# (haven't tried that on my lap), and it would be nice to be able to match Cathe closer with like two 30# weights using the loop workaround.

For heavy load, Barbell is the best option.
I prefer barbell but it's good to sprinkle variation from time to time.
Has anyone quoted compound is boring? Hmmmm nope, well at least not to me.

ETA : Single hip thrust works and feels, in my opinion, better using dumbbells.

Correction ....Beyond the hip girdle. We would defeit the purpose of the exercise.

Sorry I haven't replied until now. I usually only do internet stuff once a week due to lack of access. I don't know the brand of the belt I bought and wouldn't know how to find it or post a link. I just browsed choices online and picked one that seemed decent. Sorry I couldn't be very helpful.
