Hey guys! DH and I had the most wonderful time in Kauai!!! There is so much nature stuff to do there; we did two loooooong hikes, tons of snorkeling at many beaches, swam with sea turtles and a shark, boated with dolphins, drank from coconuts, did some 4-wheeling (not nature, but still FUN!), ate lunch at a canyon lookout with only ourselves and the birds, we got to be on a beach with FANTASTIC VIEWS of the Napali coast - and we felt pretty much like we were the only ones there!
In the mornings, I ran on the beach and I am convinced that there is NOTHING more incredible than smelling plumerias and listening to the sounds of crashing waves while you are experiencing an endorphin high We really had THE time of our life there!
LOVE Hawaiians and the locals... we met so many great people there! We are still telling people Aloha here, lol. The spirit there is something marvelous and I wish that everyone everywhere could feel the Aloha. We would be standing in line somewhere and people just start talking to you like you are an old friend. Very awesome!
One thing that it took getting used to were the chickens... there were roosters and hens everywhere we went. On any given street corner, there would be a group of chickens and a few cats all cuddled together - I have never seen anything like it! There was a tropical storm a long while back that ruined some farmers fence; his chickens got out and he obviously never got them back and they have reproduced like crazy, and you could hear them every morning at 5:45 lol. It was kind of comforting to hear the sounds of home on an island in the middle of nowhere, I have to say.
At one point while we were snorkeling, DH decided he would "surprise" me and threw some fish food at me so that there were literally hundreds of fish swarming around me... kinda freaked me out to have fifty fish coming right at my face with mouths wide open, but in hindsight it was pretty cool.
DH and are trying to find a way to move out there... if only we could afford to buy a 250k lot, and then another 300k to put a house on it Seriously, we can't wait to go back!!!
We have tons of pics on DH's website... warning, though! There are about 200 pics of just fish, and they all look like the same fish; he admits he got crazy, but it was his first time ever snorkeling so we forgive him check 'em out: www.jinesfamily.com
