I was watching a very good TV show on aging recently, and this one tidbit stuck with me. See if you can guess.

What is the single most important factor that will generally determine whether you will ever spend time in a nursing home?

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it's something like being married, and/or having an active sex life. }(
 
Whether or not you have enough lower body strength to get yourself up from the toilet? I read that somewhere years ago - it may have been on VF.

The idea is to die young as late as possible.
 
Ditto from me! And believe me, now that my mom struggles with the toilet the importance of squats in my life has become abundantly clear!

They didn't mention it on this particular show, but I've since read elsewhere that in many cases having a daughter-in-law is just as good as having a daughter. (Lucky for me!!)
